I literally thank God every night that I was born in this great country. There are so many horrible places in this world and right now Kenya may lead the pack.

My cousin sent me some pictures from Africa one time that showed gangsters walking their pet hyenas down the street. Scary place indeed...

It's a shame really. Kenya is a great country and I love the people. I lived there for 5 years when I was younger. It's not all thugs walking around with Hyenas

(those photos weren't from Kenya btw). Kenya has over a dozen tribes within it's borders. The largest, the Kikuyu, has been the ruling party essentially since the country's independence in 1963. The presidential elections held since then haven't exactly given the other tribes a chance. This last one happened to be so blatantly rigged that it has now led to all the rioting, etc. you're seeing on the news. The only way I can explain to some of you guys who may not really understand what's going on there is like this: Imagine holding a presidential "election" here in the US where all the states are supposed to have their voice, but since the current ruling party has a president from Texas, all the other Electoral College votes are thrown out and whoever Texans' voted for gets the job.
And yes, there is a lot of poverty in Kenya, as you can guess by the photos.

It's like Rome: Total War set in Louisiana. They're only missing the Oklahoman Chariot Archers (5 guys with PVC pipe javelins in the rear half of a '62 Chevy pulled by a sickly farm animal).

You know, this wouldn't happen if they just had some good, strongly worded laws banning bows and arrows.

Oh, and of course, banning gay marriage. And flag burning. And requiring that the Ten Commandments be posted in all public places.

I'm so glad I live in the U.S. of A. where we don't act like this, and the gang members shoot you with guns like civilized folks do.

I think the main reason the death toll isn't in the thousands is precisely because the weapons they are using are so primitive. What if they were all armed with AK-47s? It'd be a blood bath. It's a lot harder to kill each other with freakin' machetes and bows and arrows even if they've got skills to rival the Mongols.

[q]I didn't know that bow & arrows were still used for fighting. There is kind of a breakdown in social structure going on in Kenya. [/q]

I think this might be an advancement. The rock chunkers are in serious jeopardy of being overthrown.

We need to send Sheryl Crow over there to teach them to stop. Don't they know that the best way to solve problems is to not have enemies????

Puddler, you're somewhat wrong about the U.S. not being involved. They've actually been aggressively involved behind the scenes in trying to form some type of compromise between Kibaki and Odinga. The U.S. gives Kenya over $600 million a year and while they have no natural resources that we have a desire for, they are a potentially huge hub of terrorism (1998 Embassy bombings) and the U.S. has a huge desire to not see the country fall into chaos and become an even larger haven for terrorist.
