Kent State Pitching

Looking over their roster and seeing what's left for GAme 7 tomorrow.

They've used their 3 big starters. I think its unlikely we'll see any of them on 2 days rest. So that leaves:

NAME ERA IP
Kyle McMillen 1.84 29.1
Ryan Mace 2.45 58.2
Justin Gill 2.60 34.2
Casey Wilson 4.28 33.2

And a few guys with under 30 innings pitched.

McMillen is their closer and should be available. I'm not sure who they're going to start as they've been using Gill as a reliever and I'm unsure what Mace's role is.

Excited for the game, but Texas will need to dig deep.

I wouldn't put it past us to use Taylor for inning or two if needed. Texas St. did it against us today on a days rest. Ofcourse it wasn't effective, but I have to think Taylor could give us one or two solid innings after what he just went through. Sam starts, then committee, but I see Taylor squeezed in there for a short stint if the situation fits.

All hands will need to be on deck especially in case the 'Horns go back into their offensive shell. Here's hoping that we see more of these

than these

Mace is rumored to be getting the start for Kent State, but I wouldn't be surprised to see their friday starter Hallock come in at the first bit of trouble (or start the game outright). He threw on 121 pitches on two days rest in the 2010 conference tournament, so I see little reason for the Kent State coaches to hold him back today in the most important game of their season. Might as go with your conference player of the year and best pitcher when you need him.

Texas is starting Stafford after he threw 108 pitches on Friday. It'll obviously be all hands on deck for both squads, and I like how aggressive the Horns came out last night with their backs against the walls (a lot of aggressive early count swings, a lot of stealing bases, etc). I would think we get 2-3 from Stafford, then turn it over to our outstanding bullpen.

Both teams are top-10 in the nation in ERA, so both squads are actually ok when it comes to pitching because they are both so deep with talented arms. It should be a great game today, hopefully we can get some fans there and get the Disch rocking in the heat. Kent State has really looked composed and confident in their trip down here, I hope that ends today under the Texas heat and pressure.

**One note: Will we see Jungmann today? I remember a situation back in 2000 when Beau Hale came in to close the Arizona State regional after starting the Saturday game and throwing 100+ pitches. Can't wait to see the Horns today!

No way I bring Jungmann back. If you can't get the out you need from Stafford and then the pen then you aren't moving on.

Anybody but Jungmann and Green should be available. Even Thornhill and Milner didn't throw that much. I don't know how quickly their arms bounce back but neither went more than 3 innings basically yesterday.

Some of the Supers are Fri-Sun, and some are Sat-Mon. Not sure how they decide, but getting an extra day would be a nice if we advance.

What a shock to see Cole Green today after 8 innings only 24 hours earlier...geez. And he was pumped and fired up...huge lift IMO. Cole said he ran last night after the day start to work out soreness and be ready for today. Warrior!!!
