With bump up, Paden Kelley joins Ashcroft, Walters, and Porter as the incoming front line for Garrett Gilbert. All 4-star recruits.

Kelley should be used to blocking for GG. He's been doing it for his entire career. And, he'll be protecting GG's blindside again this weekend in Waco for Lake Travis's second state championship.

Are all 4 guys projected to play tackle? I know Walters plays center in high school, but Rivals indicates he projects more as a tackle, given his size. Any of these guys gonna play inside?

Forgive my ignorance, but I just figured that the most talented lineman often played Left Tackle in high school where protecting the QB's back is most important. Then, at the college level, they would be moved to the position of most need.

Pretty much correct. Height though is less important at center and guard. Some say that tall centers make it difficult for QBs to see over the top.

Personally, I think the most talented players can play anywhere on the line. I've seen a few of our all american guards play tackle and they have done fine despite not being the prescribed height (so supposedly not having the arm length to keep DEs away from their body).

I talked to a former 5A HS head coach who was at the LT-Friendswood game, and he said that GG was awesome, but Kelley was the best player on the field

Scout.com has always had him as a 4 star.

ESPN has him as the third best OT in the country, and the first best pass blocker in the country. link

It looks like Rivals is just catching up with everybody else.

Longview isn't any pushover. I watched them against Midway they are for real as well. Should be a great game.

Keep an eye on Lake Travis RT Taylor Doyle. He's a 6'5", 250 lb. sophomore who just turned 16. Doyle is the next Division 1A recruit from Lake Travis per Rivals and in the opinion of many others. With two Division 1A caliber linemen on the same team plus darn good guards and a center . . . well, Lake Travis has an unbelievable offensive line.

It used to be that guys 6-5 and up were best fit as OTs as long as they were athletic enough. But now so many guys are over 6-5 that I think you will see more and more guys 6-5, 6-6 playing OG or OC.

Walters could play any of the 3 positions. Porter looks like an OT to me and I don't see him playing inside. Same with Kelley. Ashcraft could play inside.

We could end up getting 2 OTs, 1 OC, and 1 OG out of this bunch. Not a bad haul at all. Every year seems like the best OL recruiting class Texas has ever had. When you think of the likes of Snow, Allen, Huey, HIx on the roster together for the next 2 years.....man things are good.

Look for Kelley to get plenty of reps on defense as well. When we play a good rushing team that starts moving the ball, Kelly plays on the D-Line. He mows the offensive line back, disrupting the play.
