Appears we might have a chance to get him back on board. Surprised that no one on our staff has reached out to him.

Another one bites the dust.

On Monday afternoon, four-star Lufkin wide receiver Keke Coutee decommitted from Texas and reopened his recruitment. Coutee is the fourth player to do so after the Longhorns hired Charlie Strong earlier this month.

“What happened is he wanted to decommit so that he can establish relationships with the guys that are new, the new coaches, the new staff,” Lufkin assistant coach Alton Dixon told ESPN.com. “And I think that’s just fair for him.”

Coutee has yet to hear from the new Texas coaching staff, but it should be noted that it is currently a dead period. The electric 5-foot-9, 170-pounder also holds offers from Oklahoma and Texas Tech, who both now appear to be in the mix.

But don’t rule out Coutee recommitting to Texas after Strong gets in touch.

“You’re talking about a kid who really likes the University of Texas, is really a big fan of Texas,” Dixon said. “And nothing changed about him liking the school.

“He’s not a flip-flopping kid.”

As a junior, Coutee caught 59 passes for 869 yards and eight touchdowns. He is ranked as the No. 24 wide receiver in the nation and No. 27 overall player in the state. Coutee originally committed to Texas in June.
