When I first saw the Kill Whitey thread, I thought it said Keith Whitley and it got me thinking about how good this guy was.

"Miami, My Amy"

"On the Other Hand" - Randy Travis

"Nobody in His Right Ming Would've Left Her" - George Strait

"Tell Lorrie I Love Her"

"I'm No Stranger to the Rain"

"Somebody's Doin Me Right"

All good songs.

could have went on to become the greatest C&W singer of all time or at least right up there w/ the top 5 had the drink not killed him.
He was a great talent.

"Don't Close Your Eyes"

"'Til a Tear Becomes a Rose"

"Take Me to Texas"

"It Ain't Nothin'"

"I Wonder Do You Think of Me"

"Ten Feet Away"

I'm sort of a songwriter junkie.
- "When You Say Nothing At All" & "On The Other Hand" were both written by Don Schlitz and Paul Overstreet who have written tons of songs for King George.
- Dean Dillon is another of George's favorite writers. He wrote "Noboby In Their Right Mind', and I think he wrote "Miami, My Amy".
- And the great Bob McDill from Beaumont wrote Whitley's song "Don't Close Your Eyes". He also wrote Say It Again, Amanda, and a ton of other songs for Don Williams.

I remember laying in my bed at the Quadrangle on 45th between Red River & Duval, sleeping through another morning class, when they announced on KASE 101 that he had died.

Interesting. I remember I had just got to my apartment (Riverchase, off of Riverside) for the Fall semester and the next morning KLBJ comes on with the news that Stevie Ray Vaughn died

Love me some KW for true!

I saw an interview, I think on 60-mins, with Lorrie Morgan.

She talked about how towards the end, he'd drink until he passed out. She'd get him in bed, then tie their ankles together so if he woke-up and tried to get out of bed, she'd know it.

Apparently, he had the habit of waking from a drunk early in the morning, sneaking out of bed while she slept, and starting over again.
