keg question

so i am getting a keg for our house after the Texas/Texas A&M game. i have alot of friends who will be in town for the game so we are going to get a keg and possibly deep fry a turkey for after the game.

anyway, my question is that i want to get the keg before friday but juniors is not open on thursday obviously. i am taking off from work on wed. - friday. should i just get the keg on wed. put it in the garage and not tap it? it should be good if i do that. i guess the main issue is i have to restrain my roommates from tapping it. and i bet that if i get it on friday after the game, it won't be iced down long enough.

about how long in advance should i ice it? i usually try to do a few hours but might go for the night before since i get back from the folks for thanksgiving in san antonio thursday night.....

The keg will be fine if untapped, and fine if tapped with CO2.

If you use the pump dealie, the keg has a shelf life of a few hours at best.

Ice it down a few hours before, and salt the ice.

I've never seen a keg sold at Junior's that wasn't stored in the keg vault, i.e. it will be cold if you pick it up after the game. I would suggest making a reservation, as kegs go quick on game day.

One question: you're going to deep fry a turkey the DAY after Thanksgiving? Damn, you must ******* love turkey!

i normally get the keg either the night before or right after work and then ice it as long as i can. with the day before being thanksgiving (they're closed) and the game on friday... yeah i think i'll get it on wednesday and just leave it in the garage.

i never thought of using salt with ice. good idea.

Forgive my amateur-ish nature regarding kegs, but i used to live in Canada, and from my recollection salt melts ice, which is not what you want....

Actually, the salt makes the solution colder.

Have you ever made ice cream?

Cold water cools more effectively than ice.
