Actually, my understanding is that it was the problems w/ his bonehead son who did not know how to run a restaurant from a hole in the ground that caused these problems. That is why Marc/k came back into the mix.
I feel he will right the ship. They charge enough for their food to do just that. But damn it's good.
The son actually runs the Katz's in Houston. It was a nasty breakup, but they settled earlier last year. Father would run the Austin one and son would run the Houston one. (that being said, there could be another son, that you are talking about.)
Well I know they get enough business.... we went by there one night to try to get something to eat and the place was PACKED... I mean there was a line outside waiting to get in, and this was like at midnight. Multiply all those people by $10 plates and I think they're doing ok.... wonder what went wrong.
You aren't kidding about it not being the cleanest place in the world. Last time I went, like a year ago, my wife and I were sitting in one of the booths (you know the ones that have mirrors on the backs?). We were sitting there and eating and a HUGE cockroach walked across the glass in the booth next to us. This guy came out of the kitchen and scooped it up. Not 5 minutes later another came to the same place! Some guy from the kitchen came out and smashed it against the mirror...
Ugh, I don't like that place at all to say the least....
i totally didn't know this was going on, but i guess that explains why whenever my folks (who live in houston) and i went there and asked if they were part of the houston store they were very adamant in saying no.
