Yes, she turned pro to train for the Olympics; the decision was apparently helped by a new rule that gives top swimmers more money, or a bigger stipend while they are training. I think she's still training in Austin but not competing collegiately. Perhaps she feels this will be her last chance to do well at the Olympics or win a medal. She is such a versatile swimmer and has had success in many different strokes and events, but she has yet to really have a big international result (Olympics and World's - she has a bunch of Golds from the Pan Am Games). She made the Olympics in 2008 and finished last, or 8th in the 200m butterfly final. She barely missed the finals (9th) in the same event at the 2009 World Championships. It's sad that she's not on the team but the women seem to be doing really well this year and continue to bring in top recruits so let's hope that continues, and that Kathleen also meets her goals in 2012.
