Don't feel bad Crockett, in the Hindu tradition of Karma, Karma is not seen as retribution (1 to 1 action) by a supreme being or related to fate, it's viewed as basically as cause and effect, or the consequences of an action.

So the Hindu version of Karma could apply here.
