So instead of choosing a team of college basketball all-stars, the US International University Sports Federation chose the Kansas Jayhawks to represent the U.S. at the World University Games in South Korea next summer (described as an “experiment” by one US federation official). the Link

I think it makes sense to choose a real team instead of a collection of all-stars, but it also means that Kansas will enjoy unlimited practices next summer, as well as the experience of a very competitive tournament before the official practices begin for the rest of us in the fall for the 2015-16 season.

I kind of like the idea of rewarding a consistently good team that meets criteria like that described to see how they compete on an international level. It's not like the previous format has been very successful over the last decade.

I think most see it as an experiment, but it could gain support if they do well.

This creates a huge competitive advantage for KU, or any other team that they would've chosen. I dont think this is something that can make it out of the experimental stages....
