Horns host the Kansas Jayhawks in the friendly confines of the Frank Erwin Center where they are 2-0 in Big 12 play. They are coming off a tough road loss at WVU last Sunday that leaves them with a 2-2 conference record. Kansas, meanwhile, comes in after getting their first conference win last Saturday to run their Big 12 record to 1-3. Horns hold a 15-10 series edge after winning the last game between the teams last season. That was the first Texas win in the past four games.Horns have two players scoring in double digits in conference play: Nneka at 12.5 ppg and Imani at 12.0 ppg. Four others are averaging between 7 and 7.5 ppg. Nneka and Imani are also among the three top leading rebounders with Nneka at 7 rpg, Kelsey second at 6.3 rpg and Imani averaging 6.0 rpg. The team averages six blocks a game with Imani (2 bpg), Nneka (1.5 bpg) and Kelsey (1.3 bpg) leading the way. Only three players have hit a three in conference play: Brady (4-11, 36.4%), Gigi (4-7, 57.1%) and Krystle (2-9, 22.2%). As a team, the Horns are 10 of 46 from BTA for 21.7%. In contrast, from inside the arc, the Horns are hitting 49.7% of their shots. Our guards do need to take the open three but all of them are much better inside the arc. The guards have taken 110 of 217 or 50.6%. Posts have taken 107 of 217 (49.3%). Imani (39 FGs attempted), Empress (36 FGs attempted) and Nneka (36 FGs attempted) are the main shooters for Texas. Nneka (14/20, 70%) has been the most effective in getting to the FT line. Krystle (6-11, 54.5%) and Empress (8-10, 80%) are the other Horns that have reached double digit FT attempts in conference play. Three others are at 9 FT attempts. Celina is averaging 4.3 assists per game with Krystle second at 2.8 apg.

The Kansas Jayhawks are led in scoring by Natalie Knight (#42, 5-7 Jr. G) with an average of 13.3 ppg and Chelsea Gardner (#15, 6-3 Jr. F) at 10.8 ppg. CeCe Harper (#24, 5-8 Sr. G) is third with an average of 8.8 ppg. Asia Boyd (#0, 6-1 Jr. G) is their leading rebounder (6.5 rpg). Harper leads the league and Kansas in assists at 7.5 apg. She is also second in the league with 2.3 steals per game. Gardner is hitting 54.8% of her shots while Knight is hitting 50% of her shots. These are the two main shooters for Kansas. Knight is the main 3pt threat at 48.1% (13-27). Harper is another 3pt shooter, going 5-15 (33.3%) from BTA. Gardner is third in the league at 2.5 blocks per game. Harper (37.3 mpg) and Knight (34.8 mpg) are the iron players for Kansas.

OK. I drag myself to the FEC - old habits die hard - along with the other 1000 or so geriatric fans. I am grateful for the win, but TX plays ugly, stupid and boring basketball. No wonder fans are staying away in droves. Thank Jesus for Imani, whose natural talent, size and athleticism benefits from the entirely one note offense, which is basically defend like crazy and attack the rim. On offense this is the worst guard play I have ever seen from any TX team.

It is not a personnel problem. There are great shooters on the team. Next year there will be more but they will be ruined by this offense that cannot pass or get guards in position to score. Two years ago, Chas averaged 17 points a game and was the second highest scorer in the Big 12 - injuries notwithstanding, now where is she?

Aston is a good to great defensive coach and by all accounts a very good recruiter but it is not 1986 anymore. You have to be excellent on both sides of the ball, and the offense schemes are LAME. Watch UConn or closer to home Baylor. Mulkey is a scarecrow in a push-up bra, but the interior passing of any Baylor team is a joy to watch. Henrickson is a middle of the pack Big 12 coach, but give her the talent on this TX team and we are final 4 contenders. Instead under this buffoon in charge, TX is a solidly bubble team.

Aston is good enough to get TX back to the mediocrity of the Goestenkors years. Make the tournament and lose in the first round, but against ANY team with equivalent athleticism, size and talent with REAL coaching, TX under Aston will LOSE every time. I hope Plonsky, or whoever is in charge after the Bev Kearney fiasco, has a hot line to Jeff Waltz, Matthew Mitchell, Kim Barnes-Arico, Dawn Staley, even Amanda Butler, anyone who knows how to coach a motion offense and can utilize guard talent.

TN made a similarly stupid sentimental white ole gal hire in Holly Warlick. The days when talent overmatch, defense, rebound and intensity would win championships are OVER. FIRE Aston now, otherwise fans and players are in for a decade of tragedy or mediocrity depending on the level of talent she can recruit. The philosophy on offense is antiquated and the level of basketball IQ is depressingly low. Besides the absolute rookie at Tech, Aston is the worst x's and o's and offense coach in the Big 12.

I will continue to go to games and cheer for the team, but I would rather not do so with dread in my heart and despair in my head.

Congrats on the win Horns. Remember the days when you didn't get Pluckers coupons unless we hit 75? I think it might have been even higher than that at one time too. Did I dream it started out at 100? At least ticket prices came back down too. Oh well.

fire Aston? are you crazy? we are 12-5 on our way to a NCAA tourney return. Horns beat aggy and OU already, which speaks volumes. losing to WVU on the road sucks but they did defeat ISU on the road so maybe they are legit. Our offense aint perfect but Coach A will only be fired in your dreams.

ticket prices are valued accordingly. be thankful those high tkt prices are gone, you were paying to fund the extravagant lifestyles of overrated coaches that took entitlement to the extreme!!

I'm in the business. Ticket prices are about demand and not about about expenses. I can get a GA ticket for $4 not because we pay our coach less but because 9,000 seats go empty every game. You get what you pay for.

By the way. You almost forgot. 12-5. In my face.

Aston is doing a great job on so many levels, especially recruiting.

I think the time will come when she is going to have part ways with one of her assistant coaches and bring in a new coach who is renowned for offense and will implement a new style.

As I mentioned in the WVU thread, to not run a set offensive play (to my eye) when the offense was struggling the last few minutes of the game was just unacceptable; have to learn to create better spacing on the floor, and run a few backdoor plays.

As for last night, great bounce-back win afte rthe tough road loss on Sunday. Imani is really begin to step up to the next level.

As for Kelsey Lang, anyone else see a transformation in her physique since the first game? She seems to have really benefitted from whatever the S&C coaches are advising.

Whoa, tree not a fan went nuts there lol. We've already matched our win total from last year and we've improved in every statistical category. So firing is a long way off. We're a few bounces away from beating the likes of Stanford and tenn, and being 4-1 in conference. Let's get through the year to see what the final results are.

Any chance that txtreefan is a troll from another school trying to affect recruits? He only knows one song and sings it no matter what happens in the game.

I'm just crushed we didn't get Dan McCarney to replace Mack Brown. But then again, football isn't a priority for UT.
