Just watched Rambo

I am not one to watch extremely bloody films, but man that was pretty amazing. What really makes it hit home, I guess, is that the things it portrays actually happen in Burma. What a sick, sick world to live in.

I am stunned by the damage that sniper rifle and .50 cal mount could do.

I actually wanted the movie to be longer and I thought it was pretty good. Stallone is a very good director.

It's like Stallone decided to go back and make his most successful movie series (Rocky and Rambo) respectable again close to the end of his career. I thought he did for Rambo what he did for Rocky in Rocky Balboa, and thats a good thing, in my book.

SPOILER

I was shocked when he climbed into the back of that jeep and then turned the .50 on the driver who was still in the drivers' seat. He literally melted that guy down. Disgusting.

I liked it a lot and posted this review:

Saw "Rambo" with my sweet wife.

The Link

We both enjoyed it and agreed it was exactly what the preview and the buzz had promised.

However, I caution you that it may not be for a mere casual fan of Sylvester Stallone’s already well-documented military misfit.

Rambo realists will appreciate and savor it the very most and the theater in which I saw it at its opening was chock full of mainly such enthusiastic folks.

My caveat is because this film is as violent throughout almost its entire length as were the most violent parts of “Saving Pvt. Ryan.”

And there’s not much down time, once it gets going.

If you enjoyed Mel Gibson’s “Apocalypto,” you may be in the target audience for this more modern (if you think mainly of the weapons and not so much of the motives) tale about having to fight for your right to party or to just go about doing what you consider to be your own business.

The mayhem here is non-discriminatory.

Numerous limbs are blown off, arrows pierce bodies and heads, several disembowelments occur and blasts vaporize people into bloody mists interspersed with flying chunks of flesh.

Mass destruction of innocent jungle villagers, by pillaging, raping, torturing sadistic solders led by a particularly dislikeable tyrant, is detailed.

Explosions of all sizes, bullets of every caliber, various sharp weapons and river gunboats do their worst.

Mercenaries and native rebels battle Burmese Army bad guys, in a rumble in the jungle with John Rambo taking his place at the top of the food chain, while trying to rescue human rights workers and medical aid missionaries in Burma, now officially the Union of Myanmar.

Realistic, intense, action packed and sanguine, this movie had the audience I was in wincing, wowing, clapping and cheering, greatly entertained by the graphic exploits of the legendary John Rambo.

In this movie, his everyday life involved catching cobras and pythons to sell.

But his real expertise is, of course, kicking the doomed asses of those who dare to become his enemies.

This action/adventure flick certainly shows that vividly, constantly and thoroughly.

My dear wife now admits she only watched small portions of the gore, but I really and totally dug it bunches.

To be honest, I am not sure I could watch it again because of the violence, but I agree that it starts fast and never really slows.

SPOILERS

I agree that him turning that .50 cal on the driver of that jeep was BRUTAL, literally carved him up. How about the sniper rifle completely taking the head off of another guy.

The stuff the soldiers were doing to those women and villages was so sick that you were HAPPY to see those idiots get blown to literal shreds. I also loved the death of the general. WOW.

For me, when he turned the 50 on the guy in the drivers seat......I shoved another mouthful of popcorn in my mouth. That's how I roll.......

As I stated on a previous post, I nominate this movie for the best use of a .50 Barrett in a movie since "God" in Navy Seals
