Just tried Homeslice...

Last weekend, we were down in the S. Congress part of town after the bball game... On the way back to the car we passed by Homeslice and after reading about it on HF, I thought what the hell, I'll give it a try....

I went in fully prepared to be disappointed especially since all I wanted was a plain jane slice of pepperoni. Took one bite and wooooooooow, I was floored. I've had Saconnes and Brick Oven but they pale in comparison to Homeslice. Never knew a slice of pizza in Austin could taste so good. Count me in on the Homeslice crowd, it was great and I plan on returning again.

Indeed a great pie, the crust is key.

That place has hit it's stride, service has improved a ton.

homeslice is incredible

its even way better when you get a whole pie fresh out of the oven as opposed to a slice.

the #6 pie is awesome.

their italian sub (with hot peppers) is the best i have ever eaten

Agreed that Homeslice, South Side, and Salvation are all very good, but I wouldn't put any of them above Reale's or Saccone's. (For some reason, my wife hated Salvation.)

I thought it was good.

Nothing extraordinary, but I bought a slice of sun dried tomato/ mushroom and garlic and a slice of pepperoni/ Italian sausage and something else.

They were definitely good, but I was a little disappointed after reading all of the crazy "best in town reviews".

I do think I need to give it another try and go ahead and buy my own pie instead of by the slice, as I don't know know long they had been sitting under the lamp.

B+ from me.

Just got back from South Side Pizza right down the street.

Home Slice is a distant second place.

That might have been the best Pizza I have ever had.

Canadian Bacon, Italian sausage, mushroom, jalapeño, artichoke hearts and extra cheese.

I had lunch at Shoal Creek Saloon with a friend and halfway through our great meal of the crawfish po-boy and fried shrimp, we started talking about Homeslice and almost decided we needed to go order a pizza after lunch for dessert. It is that good.

Now, a word to the wise - When you go there, go with one or two other people and get a whole pizza. The slice may be good but no matter what, it is reheated and if you add any toppings to an already cooked pizza, it won't be nearly as good.

If you order a pizza with 3 or more toppings, have them make it well done so you get a nicely crisped crust. Also, try the fresh mozzarella on your pie, you won't be sorry. (current fav is fresh moz, sausage, 'shroom, and with either/or/both onions and garlic).

I need to hit Southside again since I have just been once and had a really bland italian sandwich and personal pizza with pepperoni. The pizza was kind of a mess with huge bubbles, a salty crust and a canned sauce taste. Any suggestions on what they do great?

I love HS. They have good beer on tap, inexpensive and good wine, the best Italian sub you may ever have and freshly made desserts if you still have room.

My bride, kiddo and I went to Homeslice tonight. Good pie and good beer on tap. Not Earth-shattering good but the best pizza I've had in Austin.

I haven't had an honest-to-goodness world-class New York style pizza this side of the Delaware River but Homeslice is still good. I can't understand exactly what is different from East coast pies but it must be the type of flour in use in the NE (that may not be readily available here)...everything else is the same (toppings, sauce, spices, ovens, etc.).

I used to love Nick's Pizza. I think It's Italian is seriously mediocre. I can't put it anywhere near Saccone's or Reale's.

Ate at The Parlor on Saturday afternoon (Guadalupe and 43rd) and it was damn good pizza.

We got a whole pie and sat out on the deck with our pizza and $1.75 PBR. Fantastic.

Pizza in Italy generally is disappointing.

Had two different pies in Florence and Venice, and they both sucked.

WAY too much dough with only a ladle full of sauce right in the middle of what looked like a huge loaf of bread.

South Side here in town still hasn't been touched in my opinion.

Definitely you gotta get an entire pizza. I have had a slice once before and always prefer getting an entire pizza with a few of us.
