Just took my first lesson!

At the tender age of 54, I have decided to learn to play the trumpet. I just came from my first lesson, and I didn't do too badly. A lot of the muscle memory came back to my chops, as I played French horn in junior high and high school.

And unlike the olden days, I actually am excited about practicing.

My teacher says that, if I really work hard, I can be ready to take a jazz ensemble class by the fall semester!

I'm sure your husband and neighbors are going to LOVE your practice sessions.

if you played french horn, trumpet will be a breeze.

I played for years and years, and yes, the chops come back fairly quickly when you pick it up again.

Cool. I played trumpet in the junior high band, loved it. And: first chair!

Played a Doc Severinsen model trumpet that my band director loaned to me because my Bundy cornet was a POS. The Severinsen was sweet:

Dude, Al Vizzutti is coming to my school this month! We host an annual Jazz Festival, and we always have clinicians who are tops in their field. I am going to get to meet him!!

Sadly, I'm so green I won't have the chance to learn anything from him, other than to just watch and listen to his technique. But the junior high, high school and college trumpet players will learn a whole lot during the clinics.

He's going to perform with the TC Jazz Orchestra (not a bad bunch of players!) Saturday, March 26.

Too bad you're in Californ-EYE-AY.

i first saw/heard him at a "coffeehouse" series at UC Riverside in 1980. He's amazing. You are in for a treat.
