Marisa Tomei can eat an ice cream cone in my bed anytime.

Wow. She looks great. Considering her age, she looks REALLY great.

The movie?

meh.

Saw it over the weekend as well. I think the bad part is my expectations were significantly raised from everything I heard about it. Thought it was very well done and a quality film, however was not blown away by it.

Marisa Tomei looked fantastic.

We rented it this past weekend, and I was not impressed. Very cliched story with the two "washed up" characters trying to find love or redemption or some ****.

I have to disagree with everything Dionysus just said. Sorry, man.

Cliches don't spoil a movie for me when the acting, writing and directing are as good as I found them to be in "The Wrestler."

"Slumdog Millionaire" and "No Country for Old Men" are each cliched if you want to stop at that, instead of buying into the stories and being transported by the moviemakers.

They don't give out many Oscars for being uncliched, but they nominate and award a lot for outstanding acheivement in acting, writing, directing and good moviemaking.

I doubt it's possible to name a movie you think is original and uncliched without someone being able to point out parts that they consider derivative or recycled.

Anyway, cliches aren't necessarily deal-breakers for me, if the moviemaking is strong.

Of course, our individual opinions, evaluations, prederences and favorites are allowed and expected to vary from those of others and even change over time.

I know mine have.

So, what are some good non-cliched movies?

Dionysus approved non-cliched movies?
1) Brazil
2) Salo
3) Freaks
4) Eraserhead
5) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
6) Memento
7) Being John Malkovich
8) Bubba Ho-Tep
9) Wristcutters: A Love Story
10) The Russian Ark
11) Lars and the Real Girl
12) Birth of a Nation
13) Perfume
14) Man Bites Dog
15) Audition
16) Gummo
17) Mysterious Skin
18) Irreversible
19) Faces
20) Koyaanisqatsi
21) I would add a Lynch film but those normally include a rape, murder, and/or dwarf.

Huh? If it was cliched he wouldn't have ruined his relationship with his daughter nor would he have blown off Tomei at the end to continue being a washed up Wrestler. It's like you fell asleep an hour into the movie and imagined that it was cliched. Or you simply don't know what that word means and you're just trying to look cool by bashing a movie a lot of people like.

Count me in for the possum stew.  Maybe someday I'll get to be as mature a film critique as dionysus.  I liked the ******* movie.  A lot.  dionysus can bite me.

Yeah, I so wanted to make a dwarf reference, I forgot about Eraserhead.

I think the only non-cliche movie has to be Birth of a Nation (it does have squatter's rights).

Dionysus, what is your favorite non-cliched movie? I promise not to be critical; can't speak for the rest of the folks.

What's a "mature" movie? Gay cowboys eating pudding?

I saw it the other night and liked it. It's not the greatest movie I've ever seen but very solid.

What was even more solid was Marisa Tomei. Wow.

Count me in with the 'didn't like it all that much' bunch...by cliched, I think he meant Old guy blew it with his family and wants to make amends/gain redemption...or some ****. Million Dollar Baby wasn't anything like that...oh, wait. It was just like that.....

Let's get back to MT....how does she have THAT body at her age? How is that possible? It looks 22.

It's not like it is all bones or nothing buy muscle.....which seems to be the standard for "in shape" women over 40.

i was expecting epic and got good which is bad but only because of expectations
