July 4th Brisket Price thread

I just saw Brisket prices at Randall's in Houston are $0.99 per pound, I heard Kroger's had the same price.

My PassBook coupon book has 4 $5 off $50 or more purchases at Randall's with Randall's card also.

I noticed that too a few weeks ago. These were in the 9-11 lb range. Most were Choice but there were a few Select.

Yes, you can definitely find 9-11 lb full packers at HEB and CostCo. If you're consistently finding only the larger full packers in the 12-15 lb range, it's most likely because someone is beating you to the smaller ones.

And, quite possibly, it's me who is getting them before you.

Awww come on man, can't we all just get along?

Okay, okay-- here's one of my secrets: as noted by the presence of this thread, briskets typically go on sale around the "BBQ/Griilling holidays" like Memorial Day, Father's Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. I usually buy many briskets when they're on sale, and freeze the ones that I'm not using. They freeze extremely well and cook up beautifully whenever you're ready to smoke them.

And stores typically have a couple of specific days when they take delivery and put out their newest meats-- if you can figure out what that day is for your favorite store, then you'll get your pick of the litter (and you'll probably beat ME to the coveted 9-11 lb packers!

Randalls in Austin has packer briskets for $.99/lb, sale ending today.

But I presume they will go right back on sale tomorrow....

Picked up two 11lb. packers at Randall's in NW Austin for 99 cents/lb. yesterday afternoon.

Giddy up.

BTW, spotted a 7 pound packer in the mix while I was there. If I didn't need to feed so many folks, I would have picked it up just for the novelty aspect.

I'm usually the guy searching all of the briskets for the 1 or 2 that they have under 10 pounds...yesterday at the Randall's on Rice in Houston they had 4 briskets out a 7 lb 8lb and two 9lbs, I felt funny buying the two biggest briskets that they had. Less than $20 worth of meat is going to make a wonderful July 4th
