Juan In a Million sucks

I went to Juan In a Million today for breakfast after hearing a lot of good stuff about it. I ordered their signature dish, the Don Juan taco and a fajita taco

I love breakfast tacos and that is why I went there. When the Don Juan taco arrived I just looked at it for a minute. It was a big pile of semi-mashed potatoes with bacon and egg. The porportions were all out of whack with this thing. There was hardly any egg in the damn thing at all. How the hell is that a breakfast taco. Also their salsa wasn't very good. The fajita taco was just alright. I will never go back again.

I am definitely going to stick with El Sol Y La Luna, El Arroyo, Taco Express, and Mi Madres for my breakfast taco fix. And before you rip me I live in South Austin in the 78704 and try to hit the local places.

How could you live in Texas (assuming you do) and not like mexican food??

We have breakfast tacos delivered for all of my employees every morning and we normally get them from El Arroyo. They are great!

JD-

Where do you work and are you hiring? Free breakfast tacos every morning is one hell of a perk.

I get the same thing for breakfast every time I go.

1 Don Juan w/ extra tacos
1 Barbacoa taco
Side of refried beans

I always leave happy.

I too am a big fan of Mi Madre's breakfast taco's but needed to find a place open Sundays and just as good. Found it, El Flaco's on South Congress just North of Ben White. Real good stuff!

PH i am beginning to think that you just post ridiculous **** to get a response. I am a liberal and sympthazie with your general point-of view but damn, you make us look bad on the west mall.

Anyway, you soooooo miss the point of the Don Juan. It is not a taco per say, but you order extra tortillas and make, like 5 tacos out of the don juan. This in itself is greatness for like $2.50 (or whatever the price is)

Also, i cant believe you put el sol y la luna and that el arroyo breakfast swill in the same line as maria's and mi madres.

I have to agree with Texas Horn on this one.

Also, living in that yuppie alexian or whatever that congress avenue **** you call an apartment is NOT 78704. Your complexes should be banned from my zipcode.

GB I live in the State House not the Alexan. Why the hate? I wish I could afford to buy a home in Travis Heights but I have to make do otherwise. As for the Don Juan, I just didn't get it. In my mind a breakfast tacos main ingredient has got to be egg. The Don Juan was just a huge mound of potato and bacon strips. I had hard time finding ANY egg.

Also, El Sol y la luna has got great breakfat taco. Their bacon, egg, and potato is very good so is there miga taco. Also El Arroyo is super convenient to work and I like that they have a stand set up in their parking lot. Their breakfast tacos are good and they have excellent salsa. I don't care much for their lunch or dinner menus.

Taco Express is probably the best in town though. I am sure that Juan in a Millions regular breakfast tacos are fine but I was just disappointed with their specialty.

I've said it before....any place with fake tortillas sucks. It's like putting the best pizza toppings and sauce on an HEB crust. Ruins the whole thing.

It's the only thing I miss about Corpus.

I totally agree. It pisses me off that these hole in the wall places that are supposed to be authentic use HEB brand tortillas. Nothing compares to freshly made tortillas. That is one of the reasons why I love Pappasitos.

i dont think Maria's taco express makes thier own torts, but they are damn good. As far as i know Taco C, Gueros, this kickass drive in place by my house called Lugo make their own torts. ANywhere else?

I hate agreeing w/ you. About anything. But Maria's is oustanding. Hard to believe such crappiness 100yds south of there that is Matt's can be so offset by the taco paradise that is Maria's.

I haven't been to Juan's since I moved away from Austin but I never remember a shortage of egg in my Don Juan. Am I confused or did Penn get jipped once and should give it another chance?

Taqueria Arandas make their own tortillas. There's one on S. 1st at Oltorf.

Also, El Nopalito on S. 1st makes its own, as well.
