we've never done good with millwood athletes, the list is long. but here is another, that while we are on his list, he most likely will end up elsewhere. according to him, texas is pretty high on the list.

btw, millwood is a very low income, very bad part of OKC. not sure why, but we have never really been able to get their athletes. at least not lately.

which reminds me of mandrell dean. a guy so good he was still getting pro tryouts without ever playing really......

Millwood has had incredible athletics/athletes since I was in high school in OK in the early '80s.

I don't know much about the high school being in a bad neighborhood, but it looks like this kid has a good head on his shoulders. He has a 3.7 GPA and wants to be a Doctor (and he also has an offer from Stanford. As far as his interest in Texas--I have no idea. Looks like he'd be a good get, and it would be nice to raid Oklahoma for one of it's top prospects two years in row.

very interesting what seems to be happening with oklahoma kids. several good players have gone out of state the past several years. i wonder if ou's and osu's clear preference for texas kids is behind that.

osu has been pretty successful. we are usually (obviusly) in on the highest profile ones, but i think they have like 7 D1 offers on the team this year. we'll only offer turner.... and likely won't get him.
crazy athletes. i posted that mandrell dean article because i am the same age as him and played against him in junior high. when we were in 9th grade he shattered a backboard at a tournament we were playing in. true story.

i have basically been the same heigth since about 9 grade, 6'0". well, i happened to be the tallest guy (with any skills) on the 9th grade team i played on.... so i often played center.

playing against millwood was always a nightmare. they had three guys in their starting lienup that could dunk already.... in 9th freaking grade. playing AT millwood was always very interesting as well.

from the article....

THanks for the info on the Dean guy, that is an interesting story. The only problem is that it was written by our friend Thayer Evans and I really wish I hadn't clicked on it as I don't want the NYT to see anyone reading his articles so they'll fire him.
