Read on Rivals that since he decommitted from the Fightin' Pearls he has been hearing from UT as well as a myriad of other schools. Was wondering if anybody (SL, smh, etc.) had any info as to whether he is a legit possibility for UT? I know he is usually one of the guys that the scouts are most impressed about and they all rave about his scoring ability--think he'd be a great take for UT in 2010, hopefully to go along with another big man, Tristan, and Daniel.

Think Worldwide Wes. Think Kentucky.

Nike is the reason he decommitted from Tennessee. While Texas is a Nike school in terms of apparel contract, Texas isn't a Nike school in the way Oregon, North Carolina, or anywhere John Calipari is coaching is a Nike school. Those places will have players actively directed there to ensure those players stay within the Nike stable of potential athlete endorsers.

BTW, the reason you see Texas involved is because Barnes doesn't back down from a challenge. He'll give it a shot no matter how long the odds are. Hence, Tyreke Evans.

Still, Texas has no shot with this one.

*sigh*

Thanks SL, good job as usual. I forgot that he was involved with Wes...that spells no hope for UT and doom for Selby's innocence in recruiting, I'd suppose? So other than Josh Smith and Fab Melo, are we going after anybody else in the 2010 class that you can talk about, such as Cameron Clark or Corey Joseph? In an ideal world, Perry Jones (who is supposedly now being talked about as the potential #1 overall prospect) reneges on his Baylor commit and comes to the good guys (or Scott Drew leaves for greener, no pun intended, pastures).

From what I've read, the emphasis is on getting a big man in the 2010 class, and Fab Melo and Josh Smith are longshots getting longer daily, so Texas is looking at James Johnson, MIchael Cobbins, and Richard Solomon.

Will the longshots improve if we have a spectacular season? I tend to think that we will open up a lot of eyes this coming season and sway a few of these longshots.

James Johnson from Cali?? If so he is a strong lean to Washington but he is very good and would fit our schemes.

There are 4-5 quality PF out there like CJ Leslie, Fl. / NC lean
Tobias Harris is coming on Uconn-L'ville.
Adreian Payne,KU, UK, is a player solid rebounder, offense drop step, good foot work, pick and pop, I like his game.

All are around 6'8 - 6'9, 200 - 220lbs, all need to get stronger, all run the lane well soft hands, good timing.

Luke Cothren is a Bama lean/Uconn and KU. Great energy and gives 150% at both ends of the floor 6'8 210lb.
Alex Kirk 6'10" 226lbs little bounce, big body that runs well, high IQ timing, soft hands hustles plays.

All 4 year kids IMO but quality kid/ players if we do not get anyone else. Leslie has the highest upside then the others.

My experience as a fan and following this stuff is that successful seasons don't impact recruiting the year it happens, as much as is impacts recruiting classes one or two seasons out.

And then there's Maryland and Illinois, but that's another story.

Anyone who is reporting good news on the Josh Smith or Fab Melo fronts are doing the equivalent of stringing you along. Rick Barnes could tell me we're out in front of those guys and I wouldn't believe him. Josh Smith is going to either Washington or UCLA. Fab Melo is likely heading to UConn, but we'll see. Texas isn't even going to get either one on campus. Certainly not Smith, in any case.

I expect Texas will land a good front court type big man at some point, but I have no idea when that will be. It's certainly a huge hole in what otherwise have been some spectacular commitments.

Hmm, that is disappointing to hear about Melo and Smith, but I never really expected us to have too much of a chance with those guys. I'm just afraid we will be left high and dry in regard to big men in a couple of years, especially if Tristan decides to jump to the NBA after only 1 year. Obviously the talent, size, and versatility at the wing position is absolutely sick starting this year and continuing already to 2011.

On a side note, the 2012 state class with L.J. Rose, J-Mychal Reese, Winston Shepard, and Isaiah Austin could be ridiculous...

Eric Bossi posted that he heard it's either Syracuse or Louisville for Melo, and that it should be coming down soon. I figured UConn. When was the last premier big man to come out of Syracuse? Has there been someone since Coleman? I can't remember.

On Keith Davis, there's mutual interest. Jazzy Hartwell is running that recruitment, so we'll see where it goes.

SLX
Jazzy you say.
I have not seen Davis play is he as good as I hear ? Does he compare to Morgan or the kid that went to KU Darrell Arthur.
This is like shopping around Chi town.

I believe the Syracuse site reported that Fab Melo is down to Louisville, Syracuse, Florida, and Miami. Gotta give Frank Haith credit for getting some big names to consider Miami; hopefully, he'll land one of 'em eventually.

Arthur was a national top 10 type. Morgan was a top 60. He's had weight issues he hasn't yet dealt with.

Davis is a top 100 guy, but just barely at this point. He's not thought of in the same vein as the other two. Maybe that changes. I don't know. I haven't seen him, either.
