Josh McDaniel is an idiot

Once they didn’t make it . I knew the Raiders would get the ball back to win it.
The nfl psyche can’t protect leads. But they blew it. 17 blew it by not taking the hit. The defensive holding call on the missed fg was pure Vegas fix though.

Since I couldn't give a crap about whatever this NFL is, I clicked this thread, not knowing who this guy is. Figured it was a Longhorn thread. It's weird since the description of "On The Field" is a very simple "Longhorn Football". Not, Longhorn and Every Other Team And League Football.

Weird.

Edit: This is not to necessarily disparage this thread. The "Jimbo Is An Assclown" thread is another example. Should be in In The Stands.

Anyway....

Bengals scored with a short tme left on the clock. Extra point would have tied the game but no gotta go for the potential win. With a good catch it might have paid off but receiver juggled the ball in field goal range and that was that. One more try and the receivers ran into each other and went to the ground. Destiny.

McDaniel did not look so dumb when he went for it on fourth and short in his own territory early in the game and had the QB throw a long TD pass to go up 7-0. ;)

IF it works sure. But with 4 minutes left there was no reason to go for 2. You still had to play defense anyway. But when you dont score, now you must score again, and the Raiders failed to do so. Utter fail.

Remember that the reason the Raiders had a chance to go ahead at that point was that KC had just tried for 2, themselves, (also unsuccessfully) on their most recent TD in order to try to get two scores ahead. McDaniel said in an interview earlier in the game that he knew his team had to be aggressive in order to have any chance at all to beat KC at their home stadium. I just see his call as a rational part of that strategy. (I actually questioned KC's 2 point attempt more because, if they had just gone for 1, the Raiders would have had to both score and make a 2 point play just to tie them, and I knew as soon as the KC attempt failed that, if the Raiders scored again, they would try for 2).

I’ve seen enough NFLto know that if you give a team 2 minutes to score and win they rise up to do it. If you ask the team to protect a lead they go 3 and out.
Harbaugh stole a win in Arrowhead by never giving the ball back to the Chiefs. I think he went for it on 4th and 7. He knew he couldn’t stop the Chiefs on 4 downs to make 10 yards on a field goal winning quest.
Mcdaniel strategy was smart but the execution was bad.
When the Chiefs had that one point lead they went passive and went three and out.

At the end of the day, the Raiders let themselves go down a point, meaning even if they stopped the Chiefs, they must score or lose. If you kick and tie, and the Chiefs score, then you deal it then, but even if you go for 2 and convert, the Chiefs still had 4 minutes to score anyway and you end up having to score again.

In that moment it just makes no sense to risk it. Too much time left and the other team can still go ahead with a score. Take the point. Tie the game. Then play defense. If you stop them then you can try to score but if you can't, you get overtime. No brainer to me.
