Well if it had to happen at least it's early in the season.

Stupid play. Hamilton out 6-8 weeks

He took a risk by sliding head-first, despite the studies that show there's no advantage to it. If he thought the 3rd base coach was wrong, he shouldn't have gone... end of story. You have to make that decision in a split second, and the decision-making part of his brain has been affected for a while now.

To even mention Dave Anderson in the post-game comments makes me crazy. He's not the idiot who fried his brain so much that a) it affects his ability to think logically, causing him to slide head-first into home - in April no less, and b) it makes him injury-prone.

You are on third and the play is all right in front of you....the runner makes the call, not the coach. If you wait for the coach to tell you what to do in that situation, the hesitation will turn safe into out.

this is why i mentioned i don't want the Rangers to offer him a long term contract....he'll never stay healthy. That slide was not something that would put 99% of athletes out for 6-8 weeks. That's ridiculous....

The guy is fragile, plain and simple. Paying him what he'll ask for would be foolish

Saying this has anything to do with his past drug use is just idiotic. Sounds like something Bobby Valentine would say...

Calling out the third base coach was also a bush league move.

yes it does, I can't stand that guy. I won't watch the ESPN game when he is the color guy. A douchebag.

all the more reason to let josh go after the contract is up....

Hurt all the time
Throws 3b coach under the bus when he gets hurt...again
tells the media there are no hometown discounts on his next contract (meaning he has no special place in his hear here)

Let his *** go.....if Crash Davis can pan out, then a sign and trade would be in order.....Josh for David Price or King Felix.....Basically it would be switching Josh and Borbon for Crash, Murphy and Moreland & add a Price or Felix....you'd have a much better team, a much more stable team, and a true contender.

Rangers need Josh Hamilton in the lineup if they are going to do anything this year. I like Davis alot but so far he has not hit major league pitching very well, maybe this will be his breakout time? Josh apologized to the Coach and I am still a big fan.

I agree Josh a great talent, maybe the best in MLB. Unfortunately, his great talent was silenced in the world series by great pitching and solid defense. He was simply another out vs SF.

So much for the 'can't do without him' angle. Besides, he'll be gone after next season.

So, a good option (best imo) is to get a top line pitcher for him now. Pitching wins championships. It's what got us to the WS, and it's what won it for SF.

In the WS, Hamilton was no more productive than our rookie first baseman vs superb pitching. That's just a fact. You want big #'s vs the Royals and Mariners, etc? Then Josh is your man. Want to win a world series? Then we need a top of the line pitcher and we don't have one right now

As for his comments on Anderson, it speaks volumes about him. He can apologize all he wants, and I doubt his teammates will hold a grudge. No harm no foul...but it does reflect & to me isn't surprising given his poor choices in the past on personal matters.

Rangers started off hot, now they have cooled off big time and the Angels have caught them. Should be a close race in the West. Not sure the Rangers pitching is good enough?

As a matter of baseball fundamentals, the head-first slide is simply a bad idea. Setting aside Anderson's decision to send Josh, Josh's decision to go, and Josh's history of drug use and injury, the head-first slide is the real culprit here.

The risk of injury far outstrips the advantage gained, if any, from sliding head-first as opposed to going in feet-first. Josh's fractured humerus is only one of the potential injury risks. More likely injuries, in fact, are finger, hand, wrist, or shoulder injuries, all of which can sideline players for weeks or months.

There are a number of organizations that fine players for head-first slides in the minor leagues. Under the Hunsicker and Purpura regimes, the Astros were one such organization. In light of Josh's injury, more organizations may consider enforcing such fines at the major league level.

IMO, Pete Rose is the progenitor of the idiocy of the head-first slide. Rose--infamous for making bad decisions on and off the field--branded the head-first slide with his "Charlie Hustle" moniker, falsely suggesting that it's a matter of effort or hustle instead of sound judgment.

Rex,

I don't see TB letting go of price under most any circumstance to be honest. Hamilton w/b about the only player they'd entertain (southern boy, born again, etc)...and you're right they'd want more...SO, i would cough up Martin Perez, Sheppers and any position player in the minors.

For Felix, I'd wait it out. After seeing him the other night on tv, it's pretty clear he's not a happy camper in SEA right now. If Daniels was smart he'd start offering now. The price w/b steep, but Hamilton and the 2 aforementioned pitchers might do the trick....Unfortunately SEA would be hesitatnt to hand us over another world series trip. Their fans would be pissed.

Personally I'd add Moreland to the mix in a trade but I doubt Daniels will....5 more yrs of protection, good hitter and can play 2 positions.....but you don't get a chance at a King Felix too often and he's signed thru 2014
