Jose Policarpo Rodgriguez: Unknown Texas Hero

If you like little bits of arcane Texana, consider visiting Polly's Chapel near Bandera. Jose Policarpo Rodriguez (Polly) built it in 1882. He built it with his own hands out of locally quarried limestone that he, himself, cut. Today, it is out in the middle of nowhere --- really remote. It must have been really remote back then, too.

The amount of work required to build this thing out there without power tools etc... must have been staggering. I can't imagine what possessed him to build it.

If you want to know more about him, read the text below the photo.

Ha! This was our deer lease back in the day. Polly's Peak. There is an old house by the river with gun ports for windows.

Here is a little more about the church and the house I referenced above. The house is in bad shape but is a neat design. The front porch stairs go to the second story. The gun port windows are on the first story which is all that is left standing. The house is also limestone.
