Jordan Hicks is a native of West Chester, Ohio, and nearby college football programs like Ohio State, Notre Dame and Michigan would love to get his commitment. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound outside linebacker appreciates the attention of those traditional powerhouses, but he just happens to really like Texas.
Texas?
"Texas has just always been a school I liked," Hicks told Sporting News Today. "Everybody grows up with a school, and they're the school I grew up liking. I don't know why. A lot of people get on my case about Texas; they're just joking around with me and it's all in fun."
Texas, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan are just four of the dozens of colleges chasing Hicks for his services. The Scout.com five-star recruit also has written scholarship offers from national champion Florida, as well as Alabama, Georgia, LSU, USC and Wisconsin, just to name a few.
"I'm honored by everything that's going on," Hicks told SN Today. "It's been a long road to get to this point, and it's always been one of my dreams and all to play college football. Just growing up, you always want to be the best, and when all the hard work pays off and this becomes a reality, it's just a real honor."
One of the coaches who has been on the Lakota West (West Chester, Ohio) staff over the past few years is Carlton Gray, a recent eight-year NFL veteran. He has helped Hicks handle the attention he's been getting of late, which has been a big help to the rising senior linebacker.
Hicks talked about what college coaches say they like about him.
"They talk about my lateral skills and how I can get to the ball," Hicks said. "I feel like I think the game really well, too. We do an NFL style defense, and it's more advanced than most high school teams. We have to think the game more than anybody else."
