Jordan Hamilton ...

That kid seems likes he shoots every time he gets the ball. Twice Barnes pulled him out last night after poor shot selection.

I'm not sure if he's trying to do too much, or it's a me first attitude, but I hope Rick gets it under control.

He's averaging almost a shot attempt for every 2 minutes he's played this year ... which is unreal (31 in 65 min). Last night he took 7 shots in 11 min.

I'm sure he'll have many games where he's hot and hits for 20+ points, but in closely contested games launching up a jumper every time you get the ball could hurt us.

I don't get the sense that it is a me first attitude. Especially since in the first game, he didn't seem to be that quick to shoot. I imagine it is more a matter of being somewhat frustrated with the fact that he is getting so few minutes and he is pressing too much to prove himself.

agreed, he can fill it up. We need him out there at times. Barnes is too satisfied with scoreless stretches. Seriously, if you don't like his shot selection, at least put he and J'Covan in at these times. They can always get their own shot.

I hope he is able to be given more minutes. He looks like a fantastic talent. I agree he is pressing a bit but he seems to be wanting to show what he can do.

Barnes is gonna earn his pay juggling these talented guys around. It is going to be awesome to watch.

I think he is still in high school mode. He is used to shooting like that in HS. I believe he will come around and be fine,

I said in the offseason that this was his role. He's going to be our "Josh Carter" for a lack of a better comparison. He'll be the guy we go to in order to jack it up. Fortunately, we have other role players on this year's team.

He impressed the hell out of me when I saw them in person against UC-Irvine. Sweet jumper. Good ball handling skills. I like that he's not scared to shoot.

Great job Jordan!

He has 6 assists in 5 games, which isn't bad considering his PT. Also 10-25 on three pointers implies decent shot selection.

He has excellent fluidity in his motion, a baller. When I said he was pressing earlier I meant he is pressing hard to find a shot to take. With more minutes, a bit more letting the game come to him, and he will be a huge scorer for a team that has lots of options right now.

Barnes is going to have to make decisions that will likely hurt some feelings. Hamilton could gain more minutes right away by focusing on Defense a bit more and letting the O come to him. The O will still come to him cause he's truly gifted from even the short amount of time I've seen him on TV.

I hope Jordan is able to keep his focus throughout the year even if he is waiting for his minutes for stretches during the game. Be ready to play. Barnes will get him the time as the season progresses I'm guessing unless he doesn't focus on Defense or becomes a liability on the boards.

He's going to be a beast!

EDIT: btw, remember a bunch of the talented Horns of the recent past as true freshmen in their first 5-8 games took time to adjust to the new level. Beast!

When you only get to play a limited number of minutes, you are going to try to do everythign you can in those minutes. It's gotta be hard to relax and let the game come to you when it's a constant audition. I agree that Hamilton has taken some quick, ill advised shots. However, I have also seen him make some great passes and attempts to set up other teammates to the point where I thought he was almost being too unselfish. I, lIke SLX, am somewhat worried about the mental games Barnes is playing with some of these players. They need confidence. It's very early and I still have very high hopes.

Yeah raven, I watched on TV when they were on and listened on the radio when they weren't. The OP used stats to show he was a gunner, and I used some to show the opposite. Just because you say something doesn't make it so. And I don't mind a confident shooter of 3's when he is knocking down 40%. If he starts laying bricks, then I reserve the right to change my mind. For a guy straight outta HS, I would say the results in his first five games are really good.

JH struggled at times today in his few minutes but after they showed a small lecture from Coach Barnes it looked like JH started to play better team ball.

Jordan is going to be a great player for Texas. He needs to play team ball and let the game come to him naturally in the minutes he gets. Rebounding, boxing out, assists, steals, and be ready to take the open shots when they are there.

Rick is going to turn this kid into a complete player.

I don't think there's any question he was pressing more in the UNC game than he has in any game I've seen. Lots or bad decisions with the ball - but he also made some nice passes.

I definitely don't think it's a selfish attitude, I think he's trying to make plays - he's used to being able to drive the lane whenever he wants, and it showed yesterday with him trying to drive through two or three defenders.

He's only a freshman, I think he'll figure it out.

Jordan Hamilton is awesome! After a big win like yesterday, I won't say anything negative about anyone on the team. Sure, some of the young guys make freshman mistakes at times. But they are all about T E A M! These kids are really going to help us this year. Only here can you read negatives about players the day after beating freakin' North Carolina.

Hook'em!

He had a rough time yesterday, but I like the guy's talent. I think he has already made some significant contributions. He just needs to be more consistent.

hamilton will be fine. he's itching to impress, for sure, but it's not pure selfishness. he's ridiculously skilled and wants to show it all, all at once. therefore, he rushes his shots, forces drives, etc. however, look no further than his drive and bounce pass dish in the lane to dexter (late 2nd half) for pittman's monster dunk. that was play was silly good and is the type of play that he's capable of making regularly.

not playing organized ball last year is still hurting hamilton (just like it's still hurting j'covan...look at his assists/turnovers ratio). he tries to make up for lost time and it's hurting his game. incidentally, he had the same issue during the jordan brand all-american game, trying to do too much because it was literally the first game that he'd played in for an entire year.

Statalyzer. Nice post. Pull a quote from me that I made a month ago. I'll stand by what I said, at that time, he hadn't taken many bad shots.

Obviously, he didn't have a good game against NC. He's a freshman. They are gonna have bad games. He's also a shooter, coming off the bench. So, he'll be just as likely to nail his first 4 three's as go 0-fer in the next game.

I still like what I see out of him. He's got a good stroke. And at 6-7, he can get a shot pretty much any time he wants. Now, Barnes just has to work with him to take the shots that we actually need.

BTW - I also like his contributions on the boards. Seems like he get 5-7 every game in limited action.

Well, I agree that he didn't have a good game against UNC. But, I'm still not down on him. I think he's just as likely to come out on fire against MSU.
