21-314-6tds (75, 72, 56, 26, 8, 4) in 40-17 win over Birdville. Now has 187-1916-34tds (10.25 ave/carry) rushing in 9 games (21-213yds/gm). Man among boys.

I feel getting him may be pretty tough. If we do not turn our running game around next season, he may look elsewhere...if our running game does come on, and its in part due to M.Brown or another young back, he may look elsewhere.

Hopefully, a perfect storm hits, we turn our running game around and Gray wants to be a part of it.

JG has stated he is not afraid of the competition at RB. He knows Brown is coming. As for our running game, I am sure he feels he can make it better. Lastly, he really likes Texas at this point.

Any high school player who can play football in Texas can look at this Longhorn team and say to himself I can start on this team. This team needs talent at every position, especially on offense, it needs receivers who have good hands and who can block, it needs running backs that can run and block also. If I am a High School star looking at Texas I have to say I like my chances of playing and starting cause I can play.

I was on TexAgs for the first time in about a year because I was curious to see what our little brothers were saying about recruiting. Someone posted that James Gray said he was lied to twice by UT, and thus, they were not very happy with us. Has anybody heard anything about this? I'm guessing the source (TexAgs) is a little biased.

Now THERE'S a reliable source. Texags... Seriously??? Did they really call him James? Because that would be my first red flag.

Gray played in State Champ game Friday night. Aledo beat Lamarque 69 - 34.

Pretty good outing - 8 TDs, 325 yds rushing on 28 carries.

Set record for most TDs in a season in Texas HS football with 59 passing Sugarland's Ken Hall's record of 57 set 57 years ago.

Will likely surpass Traylon Shead's career TD record (146) in TX next year. Gray is currently at 135. Might take the lead in 2nd game of season!

Last night, Gray showed speed, power and agility. He is very good at cutting through lanes and turning on the afterburners. Also, seems comfortable running up the middle.

This kid is great and I have seen him in person probably a dozen times, One thing though you dont see in those numbers is the fact that his OL is so good alot of times he doesnt even get touched.

If he can get 8 more TD's in next years State championship, he will pass Cedric Benson for the most TD's in Texas HS State Championships. I thought that record would never be touched. But if they can make it back and if he can do what he did this year, I guess it could be possible.

It would be nice to have him with Malcom Brown.

In watching the LaMarque game, running right up the middle, he was often 5-7 yds downfield before he needed to make a cut. He's a wonderful talent and I hope he becomes a Horn, but that game was a butt-kicking on the lines. The 2-3 previous games were examples of Gray when the sledding was tough.

tholly -

If you had been following Gray through the playoffs, you would know why his productivity dropped off for several weeks leading up to the state championship game. In the Hereford game, Gray hyperextended his knee early in the game. He probably should not have played the following week against Stephenville - the trainers fitted him up with a brace that did not allow him to straighten his leg to within 15 degrees of full extension (he was still far and away their best option running the ball). The following week against Mesquite Poteet, he talked the trainers out of wearing the brace, but he still was not confident with the knee. Look, he has played in 41 games to date and run for 100+ yards in 35 of those games with lines from 3 different seasons. Trust me, Aledo has top notch coaching, but they do not produce much Division I off/def line talent.

It would be sweet to have them both sharing carries and also to see Gray take some snaps with the option of handing it to Brown or keeping it in the wildcat formation.

Okay, I just got a call from my buddy in Lubbock who is a tech fan and he said we pretty much wrapped up Johnathan Gray as a recruit getting his dad on the coaching staff. WHAT? Jerry Gray is Johnathan Dad? How the hell did I not know this? Or is he mistaken?
