John McEnroe

I was listening to John McEnroe today. He seemed very intelligent and was extremely complimentary of Jimmy Connors, basically saying that he wishes that he was as dedicated and worked as hard as Jimmy Connors. It kind of surprised me in that his comments were so different than Greg LeMond's comments toward Lance Armstrong. What are your opinions on McEnroe? He seems very different than his on court persona.

McEnroe was a great competitor and had a ton of respect for the guys he played against (Borg, Connors, Lendl, Agassi, etc..)

And he's also very complimentary of the current guys, and called Federer the GOAT.

I guess it just surprised me. LeMond seemed like a good guy when he raced. McEnroe seemed like a brat when he played. Years later, I've come to realize that a person's behavior during competition may be very different than his behavior in every day life. I misjudged both.
