Yikes those young guns took over the DB room. I grew to like Bonney over the last few season you could see the growth in his game.

Not a shock, but feel bad for the guys. There's a whole lot of talent trying to get on the field right now, and those two guys were likely not going to get much time. Hope they do well wherever they end up.

If Bonney somehow got dumped down the chart by the newcomers, then that shows how good they really are. That's super-promising, especially considering how well Bonney came along last year and made some key plays in key games.

I wish we had as much talent trying to get on the field in the trenches. Cuffee never lived up to his rankings. I guess going to the same HS as Derrick Johnson and Kwame Cavil didn't rub off on him.

Wow, I wish them both luck, but I can't help but feel like the new DBs are going to be extremely special, I expected Bonney to be a major contributor. I also wish these two luck and hope they can latch on to a program that will develop them. They can both latch onto a program like Utah or Arizona and become major contributors, my guess is they will be making a call to Charlie Strong. Which in itself isn't a bad idea.

You favored Bonney, and I expected Cuffee to be a major contributor. I'm thankful for all they gave the program and wish them both the best of luck moving forwards. And with that said, I am very excited to see what the Freshmen are bringing to the table.

A transfer to TVCC sounds like a grade issue more than anything else...sadly, many of those never make it back to D1 and do not even finish JC.

For a minute there I thought you were talking about TT.
umm...that too...although I cannot quibble with someone doing the graduate transfer thing. Those tend to be the players that know the NFL may not be enough to retire on and need an actual degree to fall back upon, and if that is the case here, I wish nothing but the best for the young man in all of his games this season (except for one).

Bad joke on my part. Wouldn’t surprise Bonney has a good season.

I like Bonney but I don’t think he has the physical tools that the young guns possess. Now, put his smarts — as an upperclassman— in their bodies and you would have something very special, immediately.

just wonder where he fits in with one year eligibility remaining and they are touting their defense up here, with 10 or 11 starters returning? good luck too him, with his academic standards definitely NOT a requisite---hehe, can say that with the MRS who went there and totally agrees with that response....:smile1:

I guess Bonney has a bone to pick by transferring to a city where we're going to have to play a road game this year. I can't blame him. I'd take everything that the coaches have been implementing over to Kingsbury's staff and say "you know how you guys were lucky to beat us last year? Here's this year's intel. Drink up."

Also interesting that Tech's depth chart at DB has basically been set before their Spring season began. So he's obviously not concerned about competing for playing time there, even though his biggest competition was a bunch of guys who have never seen the field in Austin... AND with D. Davis getting injured recently...

Tech had a DB that was scheduled for considerable playing time injured and declared out for the year this past week end.

It seems Kliff and Bonney knew each other from KK's time coaching in Houston at UH. Bonney visited Tech recently and decided that was where he wanted to transfer.

The ultimate challenge for a young athlete deciding on what collegiate level to participate on - do I want to be a small fish in a big pond or a big fish in a small pond? In Bonney's case his seeing the future at Texas led him to decide he wanted to finish his career as a small fish or a large fish. He chose the large fish route. I am sure the Texas receivers are not worried.

The DB coach at TTech also coached DBs under Charlie so, there's a connection there.
It's not like he sneaked off and joined TTech. Surprise!!

I'm sure he had a long discussion with Herman about transferring and where he wanted to go and why.
And Herman agreed to let him go there.

I wouldn't necessarily say he went to TTech to spite Herman.
Or Herman probably wouldn't have let him go there.

Hopefully he gets a Master's out of it as well.
All he has to do is enroll in a graduate program that Texas doesn't offer and sign up for 3 hours. Doesn't have to worry about going to or passing the class as football season will be over before the start of the spring semester.

If Bonney was really interested in being a big fish in a small pond, I suspect he might have chosen a little more selectively. You know, maybe not select a school that has beaten his former team 2 of the last 3 years and also won more games overall during the last 3 years than his original team has.

You're right, lecturer. We should have said he was interested in being a big fish in a brackish, algae choked, filthy stock tank. We apologize for our earlier mischaracterization.

Class act by Herman, and I don't think this is the first time that he has not stood in the way of a transfer.

I agree, and I'm not even sure coaches should have the power to block transfers. But, if there was ever a time where blocking is appropriate, it would be transferring to a common opponent 2 weeks before the season starts.
