HBO Sundays are dead.

Last night was a boring episode until the last few minutes. I hope they get back on track next week. The infatuation with closeups has annoyed me from the beginning, but they really bothered me last night.

only saw a small piece of it where John was meeting with some guy in London (King maybe?) and jst the way he had to act in front of him with all the bowing and stuff was interesting.

people were so different back in those times

i enjoy the historical part of it

I thought the scene between King George and John Adams was very good.

I'm amazed that HBO was able to take a story about our 2nd President (whom a lot of people know nothing of) and make it awesome. I love it

It's going to be awhile for Big Love. The strike really screwed it because HBO didn't order a 3rd season until last June or July. The writers were in the middle of writing the 3rd season when the strike took place. It's still going to be a couple of months before they start filming. It might be ready later this year, early 2009 if not.

It's a great series that hardly anybody watches. I think it's right up there with all the other great HBO dramas.

"John Adams" is a very good miniseries. Historically accurate, good casting of John and Abigail as well as B Franklin and TJ.
I like it.

Mesohorny,

I feel like the casting of David Morse as Washington was an absolutely brilliant stroke. He truly captures the "greatest American", a man who everybody loves but nobody knows anything about.

The series is playing out as well as I could have imagined once I heard McCullough was satisfied that Hanks and crew wouldn't butcher the history.

I can easily understand why the low-brow crowd wouldn't be entertained.

There are a couple of other good mini-series coming up on HBO - the David Simon (Wire) production on a Marine in Iraq and the Hanks/Spielberg "Band of Brothers" like series on the Pacific sector during WW2.

I like it a lot.

I agree reagrding the casting of Washington. From what I've read, the actor nails him, albeit in small doses.

I especially liked when Washington was speaking so softly when he was taking the Oath. I can imagine Washington would have been just like that.

A few observations...

Capturing both the suspended tear in the Kings eye and his genuine melancholy was a good moment.

Can you imagine coming home and finding your chldren as adults?

Adams reading the British newspapers at the breakfast table was very modern...some things haven't changed.

And yet, Adams is certainly hiding his vanity from all...save his bride, the steward of his ambition to be POTUS.

Abigail's puritanical blushing at the ballet giving way to admitting she was "transported by it".

A slow episode, but as a whole, I can't say enough about how much care have been given to detail in the telling of his story to date.

The next episode, Unite or Die, will put George Washington front and center.

He went crazy later in his reign. It's believed that it was caused by a blood disease that resulted from exposure to arsenic.

I like this show. I'm not a history buff, but from the way the show feels and from what people say, it's historically accurate. To me, that's what makes it entertaining. Is it slow? Yes. But, for someone liike myself who is relatively uniformed about the birth of our country, it's like stepping into a time machine. The secondary characters are awesome; Franklin is exactly how I pictured him.

Two complaints: I like Mrs. Adams' portrayal, but does she have to be such a drag? Also, the cinematography is annoying as hell in this show. Does every angle have to be slanted?
