Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman

was an article somewhere a few months ago about him giving up acting b/c he's done and wants to focus on his music

I think that had to be real. That is the most uncomfortable I have ever seen anyone in their own skin.

The phrase 'slow motion trainwreck' comes to mind.

Completely staged. Casy Affleck, his best friend, is producing a mockumentary about "his journey." You know that Letterman appearance will be a central part of the movie. I actually think he's pretty funny.

that was brilliant. Totally a performance piece.

"Joaquin, i wish you could have been here with us tonight."

Classic.

I believed it until I read that Casey Affleck was following him around with a camera, recording everything.

Staged or not it was hilarious.

This was all very fascinating to me, so I delved around the intergoogles for a while. This rolling stone article/blog made me think that it's a hoax. It was written before the Letterman interview.
