Jindal is worse than Katrina

I'm not worried about him being president. I'm worried about him being governor of Louisiana. I wouldn't vote for that guy for dog catcher.

Same rap that's happening in Texas and has been happening for 15 years. First, a Republican cannot increase anything that is called a tax. If he does, not only will it kill his presidential aspirations, it will spell almost certain defeat in the next primary election. He or she CAN and does increase revenue through other means, such as tuition hikes.

Second, a Republican cannot expand welfare programs for individuals (unless his name is George W. Bush). However, he can and is expected to expand corporate welfare programs, as Jindal has. Of course, Rick Perry is notorious for this.

Of course, Jindal (like Perry) cut education spending. On the surface, that's unpopular. However, the big problem opponents of the cuts always have is that they always predict Armageddon (massive teacher layoffs, closed schools, dramatically bigger classes, etc.) that never seems to materialize. It certainly doesn't materialize enough for your average person to notice.

If education cuts led to neighborhood schools getting closed and kids having to be bussed across town to sit in classrooms with 40 kids instead of 22, you'd see this issue stick a lot harder. And of course, if the high school football program got shutdown, there'd be riots in the streets. However, that just doesn't seem to happen, and the opponents of the cuts lose their political credibility.

My main problem with Jindal isn't his k-12 education cuts, its that he has an oil state that had consistently high oil prices over the last budget cycle yet has a 1.6 billion dollar hole to figure out. A 1.6 billion dollar hole to cover is the equivalent of around 8.5 billion in Texas considering the population difference. I think Perry is a jackass but even he has managed to run a surplus given the oil boom. Jindal has cut taxes 6 times and is giving out corporate welfare in a way that doesn't really benefit the state. Is 330k per duck dynasty episode really necessary when you fund LSU at 25% of the rate it was funded when you took office? Is giving away ten of millions for a plant that produces 42 jobs worth it when you are closing hospitals? You are right that he can't raise taxes as a republican. I'm not asking him to raise taxes. Just stop cutting taxes and giving away money that you don't have in an attempt to bolster your presidential chances that are next to nothing. Imagine how bad it's going to look if oil prices stay down for the next couple of years.

Maybe Jindal is a fan of Mississippi and wants Louisiana to be more like them?

Mississippi has a budget surplus at the moment. Louisiana is surrounded by states that have one as Arkansas, Texas, and Mississippi all do. The problem is that Jindal put his own personal aspirations ahead of the state.

Like Mississippi in terms of dead last in education, highest obesity rate, highest unemployment etc. Overall, Mississippi easily makes the case for the worst state in the 50 states. With that said I applaud them for living within their means.
