JFK to Jersey City?

We're flying into JFK and staying in Jersey City just across the Hudson from Manhattan.

Any suggestions on easiest and/or most cost effective way for a family of four to get from JFK to the hotel?

My wife and I did this. Might not be optimal for family of 4

Take the air tram to subway. Take the subway to 33rd and 16th avenue(need to change trains once), Catch the PATH to NJ at 33rd and 16th avenue. The PATH will take you to Jersey City.

Other option is. Take a super shuttle or some other airport Taxi to Manhattan, 33rd and 16th avenue station and then take the PATH.

family of four? spend the $100 and take a car. 212-777-7777

Super Shuttle is cheaper but likely takes longer as they make multiple stops

Staying at the Hyatt?

Have you already made your plane reservations? Isn't Newark Liberty closer to Jersey City than is JFK?

Newark vs. JFK vs. Laguardia -- you will get many different opinions. But if you are staying in Jersey City, I would think Newark might be a better airport option.

FWIW, I've flown in to and out of all three and I can't stand JFK Int.

I think for a family of four you might want to look into a car service/van.

this is I think is fairly accurate and timing is if you hit everything without a delay.

tram = $3perperson
20minutes

long island railroad or subway to penn station= @5-9 per or $2per
30 minutes or an hour

path to jersey city=$2, Ithink per
30 minutes

(or you could take bus from port authority at around $8per)

jersey city station to hotel= cab? $?

I don't know what that adds up to, but it sounds like a headache. treat the expense like it's part of being a tourist and part of sightseeing. if a van can get you all door to door for @$120-$150 with tip, I would do it. it would be about an hour and a half. and the bonus would be that you would get to see NYC as you travel around the belt (coney island/over the verrazano bridge/statue of liberty) or through the city (over brooklyn bridge to holland tunnel).

Yeah... with a family of four, sometimes you just suck it up and shell out the dough. Pay the $100 for a car service.

I like Evil's advice and with tip & toll he probably right....$100-$150. You can ask the driver to take the Belt Pkwy to the BQE as it's more scenic IMHo but let him make the call based on traffic (never fun to simple sit in traffic) and you should take the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan and then the Holland Tunnell as it's more scenic (East River Views, Gov Island, City Hall, Wollworth, Downtown, ) than taking the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Holland.....again I suggest letting the driver take the fastest route.

That Hyatt property is a good one. clean, maybe 7 years old, right on the Hudson, walk out the door and the Exchange Place PATH train station is right there (note the long ******* escalator) and about 100 yards from the "Colgate" NY Waterway ferry stop

now ask us about pizza, where to watch the Horns, what to do, and for a restaurant rec.

Yikes -- yeah man, take a car. By the time you get all of your family onto the airtran, then LIRR, then PATH you're looking at around $40...and at least an hour or 90min on various trains. THEN you have to have faith that you can not only figure everything out, but that you can keep track of your family and luggage while doing so.

It sucks hard -- but everytime we fly anywhere we have to add in $100 for cars to/from the airport. You'll spend more since you're going so far, but you're basically coming from the furthest possible point away from Jersey, City, so it's worth it.

On the bright side -- the PATH going into the city is clean and fast - a nice experience..so that's going to be good for the rest of the trip.

Oh, and don't duck the turnstile on the PATH by the hyatt...we couldn't get the card to work and the wife made a run for it..got us kicked out of the train station. That was a $90 cab right there.

Thanks for all the advice. I was leaning toward using a car service & it looks like that's the best option.

I'd heard about JFK not being the greatest airport, but couldn't pass up a direct flight from Austin at $260 a piece.

We have easy access to Manhattan, so feel free to recommend restaurants, etc.

Fanatic I work at Exchange Place, right where your JC Hyatt is. It's a very nice new hotel, good food, etc. Vu is their restaraunt, great views back to the city. Just eat there. Not much to do otherwise in JC, except the Liberty Science Center for the kids, but as you said the PATH is right there and will get you back into the city.

Oh, from JFK take the car no doubt. Airtrain to Subway to Path is just waay to much of a hassle.
