Jeter's 3000th Hit

Sometimes things break your way. My father is a life-long Yankee fan so in early March I started checking the Yankee website for tickets. I tried to get June Yankee/Red Sox tickets but they were sold-out. I had to settle on an alternative. I happened to choose Saturday's Yankee-Rays game.

When Jeter came off the DL, I knew it was going to be close (I have to thank the baseball gods for Friday's rainout). Yesterday at Yankee Stadium was an amazing experience/atmosphere: chants of Jeter, the dramatic homerun, 5 for 5, game winning hit, the life-long Yankee fan getting the ball and returning it to Jeter.

One of my top 5 sports moments.

Derek hitting a tater for #3000 reminds me of Ricky running for a TD to get his record. Better a homer than a single, better a touchdown than a 3 yard gain for something so momentous.

What a game he had. Hitting a HR to get to 3000, going 5 for 5, and then hitting the game winning hit. Dude is a class act and a champion. He is going to go down as one of the best Yankees ever. He has done what he has done in the steroid era and he has to be one of the few guys that I would look at and say, "that guy never used steroids". He has done it the right way and accomplished more than just about any other player doing it the wrong way.
