Jello Shots?

So I'm making jello shots and I though I'd get advice from the Hornfans crowd. I hope this is the right place, I realize there is not much cooking involved.

It seems like people typically replace half the water with alcohol to make the shots, and you just put them in a little disposable cup. I saw a lot of ideas online, I was wondering if I should just stick with vodka and different flavors of jello or if it's worth it to use different types of alcohol (tequila and lime jello, for example). Also, how much should I make for 8 people?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Lime jello and tequila definitely works. Strawberry and rum would be good also. Have fun and experiment. That's the joy of jello shots.

If you're not making orange flavored shots then you are on the wrong forum.

This is something I would never make at home because the best thing about jello shots is the jello-shot girl who serves them at the bar.

My mom used to make jello parfaits...hmm, that gives me an idea.

/ Absolutely! I use spiced rum for my burnt orange shots.

Make sure your alcohol is in the freezer for at least 8 hours before you begin. It helps the shots to firm up faster.

I still use 3/4 of a cup of boiling water to dissolve the gelatin (for a small box of Jello), then add 3/4 to a cup chilled liquor and a few ice cubes. Small boxes of Jello will yield about 14 shots. I'd make at least 40 for a party of eight.

In tequila/lime shots, try adding a large shot of Cointreau®.

Lemon flavor is good with gin and a shot of 7-Up or Sprite.

Pineapple flavor is good with coconut rum, but these are really sweet. Women love them.

Blueberry is good with Bacardi Limon and a shot of triple sec. It looks like Windex. Kids love them.

You basically have everything correct. The rules that I found (and go by) are based on the alcohol content of the liquor--for (around) 80 proof, go with the 1/4 liquor to 1/2 hot water and 1/4 cold water that the regular jello recipe recommends, which means 8/8/16 for the big boxes. For lower proof, increase the alcohol and decrease the cold water (10/6) and for higher proof (i.e., Everclear--be very careful) vice versa (6/10).

And while I definitely recommend mixing up the flavors a bit (the lime with tequila and a bit of Triple Sec/Orange liquor--you can use Cointreau if you really want to, but keep in mind here, you're putting this alcohol into JELLO!--is always a big hit), but I've found that most of the time people want pretty straight-forward flavors (orange with vodka, strawberry with rum, etc.). I like the Blue (berry, I think) with Everclear (again, be careful) or Vodka. Another reason to keep it simple is just in case anyone has a strong dislike (or allergy) to a particular alcohol.

And yes, I might have done this once or twice

Smooth knows what he talking about. He made so many types of jello shots at a tailgate that he printed a menu.
