Jeffcoat Versus Southlake

I caught about half of this game at SMU. A couple things stood out regarding Jackson Jeffcoat. First, he has great size and athleticism. He can really motor and does a great job of shedding blocks. Second, there are a lot of blocks for him to shed. It's amazing that a guy like him can get any stats at all. He is constantly double teamed and every offensive play is designed to avoid him. It must be frustrating. My overally impression? Man, I hope this kid joins the Horns.

He looked pretty dang good... but it didn't help, did it? If I read the scores right, SLC kicked the crap out of Plano West...as in, roughly three times the ***-whipping 0U received from us last year (if you call 10 points an ***-whippin').

Saw Jeffcoat vs. the Marcus Marauders. Again, he was on the losing side, but man what a player. No two guys could block him in space and the Marcus vaunted passing attack never got off the ground.
Eventually the Marauders narrowed their splits and just ran roughshod over Plano West.
In the Plano West Scheme, Jeffcoat would take on a lot of blockers, even if three guys weren't aiming at him on every play. His shins took more punishment than the man whose last act was to piss off Ivan the Terrible. I think playing DE in college might seem like a break from what he's getting in AAAAA high school football.

I've been watching the film of him against Carroll. A couple of things that stand out are his strength and the leverage he plays wih. Rarely does he stand up and lose his superior strength by handing over leverage.

He does have a very good first step as well. For PW, he plays inside at times and outside at other time.

He probably won't add a whole lot more to his frame because he seems to be really filled out but it is also difficult to know for sure when he is wearing pads.

He is the best defensive player I have seen so far on film. I'm watching Southlake this week and I'll see Byndom at Lufkin next week and Dorsey at John Tyler in a few weeks.
