That's because his thoughts are so long, so epic, that he sometimes finds himself at the end of the thought being influenced by himself as a younger man at the beginning of the thought.
Oh man, you've hit a nerve with me. The condescending tone he takes towards his callers is irritating. Also feigning ignorance on normal everyday topics. The annoying drop-in sounds. The long pauses. The opening monologue. I could go on.
I remember he got into a pissing contest a few years ago with a caller. The caller used a word that apparently wasn't in Ward's lexicon and he thought it was some type of bird. He refused to let it go and it got pretty painful to listen to.
But I had an advertising class with the guy at UT, and I really enjoyed it, so there's that.
If you like people who ***** and complain and never have any answers or sloutions, you'll love Jeff Ward. His Friday movie critic buddy is really good however.
I'm sure in real life he is a good guy but his show is usually silly/boring. Two hour discussions on breast feeding in public, people who drink to much Jolt and want to sue the company when they have panic attacks.
Personally I find a lot of his topics boring but on occasion he will have something worth listening to. But the guy obviously has a large audience as KLBJ has kept him on the air for a long time.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's noticed / is bothered by the long pause thing. JW is annoying sometimes, insightful & funny at other times. Regardless, I tune in just about every day.
He and his fellow Westlake teammates spit a lot at my son & his buds when Reagan played them in a soccer game a lot of years ago. Sumbitches played on the edge.
Of course the fact that Ward, a senior, dribbled the ball right around my freshman son to score one of Westlake's 5 goals has nothing to do with my cynical thoughts about the guy.

If you mention to Jeff Ward that he missed two field goals (40 & 43 yards) in the 1984 Cotton Bowl against Georgia -- either of which would have won the game and given us the national title -- he will drop your call in a heartbeat. Dude enters the game 15 out of 16 for the year and then misses field goals from the 23 and 26 yard lines. Forget Curry's muff; Ward choked away a national championship. If you had to live with that for the rest of your life, maybe you'd have his personality, too.
