Jeff Fisher basically calls Hoge a liar

I hope there's a bigger build up in the media about how bias Hoge is against VY. I know it's ESPN, but they should have some standards for their talents.

This is all Hoge has. I never hear his name mentioned in any context besides VY. Just ignore him (as I hope VY does); he's irrelevant.

As others have intimated before, it's no longer enough for ESPN to report the sports news. Now, the "Worldwide Leader" presumes to make the sports news, dictating outcomes to us the American sports consumer.

Hence:

(1) ESPN crowning USC as the greatest college football team of all time before we beat them in the '06 Rose Bowl;

(2) Hoge not only criticizing, Vince's play, but writing fiction in a thinly veiled attempt to buttress his "take;"

(3) Mind-numbing and time-wasting features on "Title Town, U.S.A" and other wholly subjective measures that ESPN's writer get to preordain;

(4) ESPN's mythical college playoff, in which the writers and commentators substitute their subjective opinions in place of what actually happens on the field during the conference title games and bowl games;

(5) Tony Kornheiser--a man who has never, ever participated in a meaningful football practice, game, or down--pretending to tell me what is going on in Philip Rivers' and the other Chargers' heads during last night's Monday Night game.

I could go on and on with examples like this. ESPN is about one step away from trying to decide outcomes, writing what they believe is the "better story" rather than simply letting sports happen naturally and covering their natural greatness.

I consume ESPN only because there isn't a competitor who provides comparably comprehensive information. But, I take everything
that ESPN reports with several grains of salt.

I just don't get why Hoge has such a hard-on for Vince. I know he had a lot of concussions as a player, so he might not be "all there," but I still can't figure out what the hell VY did that pissed him off so much?

The fact that Hoge has not been fired by ESPN is ridiculous. His antics could be easily construed as racist. They are definitely loony.

As bad as he is - and he is bad, at least he's not the worst on ESPN. That honor belongs to one Desmond Howard who doesnt know the difference between UT and aggy

i am not one to throw around the charge of racism, but i am beginning to wonder about hoge. he says that he has never met vy. hoge also says that he doesn't hate vy and doesn't want him to fail. yet anyone who has seen hoge's comments regarding vy clearly understands that hoge hates vy. there is nothing else you can call it. my question--how do you truly hate someone that you've never met? i don't have the answer, but i'm beginning to wonder if there isn't some racism here. i just don't get it.

Hoge seems like a huge dick. I was watching NFL Primetime or something yesterday and they were talking about Miami's Single-Wing formation. Hoge kept calling it the Factor Back formation because, for some reason, he has a huge infatuation with the term "factor back." The other guys kept saying Single-Wing and he tried to correct them and say "actually, it's the Factor Back." The other guys just flat out said, "You're the only one that calls it that." He just had the smug look on his face and kept talking.

It's actually sad how far away from journalism ESPN has moved in the past decade or so. It is so hard to find an actual sports reporter nowadays. It's a dying breed.

You're more likely to be an ESPN anchor as an actor than a journalist.

I'm glad Fisher called Hoge out on his bs. His cred should go from zero to -5000. I'd say he's an embarrassment to the profession, but sometimes I think this profession has no shame in their effort to create news and sensation. Stiffs like Hoge are the paparazzi of sports.

Sports journalism is no different than the rest of the media. they're so much smarter than the rest of us, they think they should tell us how to think.
VY is a tough dude. Who cares what Hoge thinks?
