Jeff Buckley American Idol

I'm not a big fan of American Idol, but I'm glad that a whole new generation will get to experience the greatness that was Jeff Buckley.

His version of Cohen's "Hallelujah" is number 1 on iTunes today because one of the contestants, Jason Castro, performed it on March 7th.

Jeff was just starting to rise to stardom when his life ended. When he died, I was living in LA and knew a lot of people in the music biz. Many of the women I knew who saw him live were nearly orgasmic in their descriptions of seeing him perform. Watch his DVD (Live in Chicago) and you'll understand why. The guy's talent and charisma were off the charts.

Pretty sure Buckley got his version from John Cale.

Also, a lot of kids have already heard it because it is used in one of the Shrek movies as well ( I think #2).

Rufus Wainwright did the version in Shrek.

Wainwright did the soundtrack version, but Cale did the version in the movie.
