Jeep Liberty tire chains

Going to Lake Tahoe end of Jan and will probably need snow chains for rental Liberty 4WD. Does anyone have experience with the whole chain thing and a Jeep Liberty?

The rental agency says I can buy the chains from them.

From my experience, my only advice would be to practice putting them on before you leave the rental lot (hopefully it will at least be dry there and maybe a bit warmer). If you have questions you can ask the rental company (and also to have them check that they are on right, if they will.) As you go up the mountain, there should be a pull over area just before the place where chains are required. Last time we were in that situation, there were plenty of guys there willing to put them on for you for $30-$40... but they won't be liable if the chains later come off and get wrapped around the axle of your rental...
