J'covan Brown

This young man is putting his intensity toward basketball, his anger that so often appeared in immature and destructive ways last year is now being expressed in a manner that takes his game and team to a new level.

I did not think this could happen so quickly and so effectively.

I want to give this kid some serious props. He will only get better. He is night and day ahead of where he was last year. His temper still erupts, but he quickly channels it in basketball savy plays: like swarming defense, tough slashing to the basket, dynamic passes to his team mates.

I have never seen progress to this degree this fast.

Keep it up Mr. Brown, the sky is the limit.

I agree. I have always said that if he just plays the game and doesn't let the ref or the other team take him out of it, he is deadly. He was awesome tonight.

I must give it up to Hamilton also. He has come a very long way. To pass johnson the ball in the corner for a bucket when everyone in the gym thought he was gonna shoot it, and come back on the other end and make a big block. Two plays he probably doesn't make last year. I love it.

He just plays smart basketball. He is very aware of what is going on.

Did you notice he was yelling at Joseph to shoot when the shot clock was running out, and CJ then banks in a 3.

I don't know why he isn't starting, but it seems to work.

Not consistant enough to start. Balbay can't score but consistant in what he does. You also need his scoring off the bench. Who else going to come off the bench and score.

One of Brown's biggest issues in my opinion has been the occasional brain fart - i.e., he thinks he's possessed by Magic Johnson and makes one of those "oh no" passes, or forgets that there is such a thing as a charging foul in the game. Fortunately those are becoming fewer and farther between.

The dude plays with an edge and if he can harness it, with his ability, there's no telling what he can do.

They way he plays is like watching White Men Can't Jump. Sometimes you think "what the hell was that". Like his around the back travel saturday

Sometimes he has great vision on the court, and sometimes, I just shake my head at some of his passes

But I just love the way this team plays together as a team. And J'coven is also a Port Arthur boy! Yeah!!

That play was just fine with me. He will push the envelop, and he will get better as a result, because he seems to be maturing and channeling his great intensity and aggressivness into basketball rather than arguing and challenging refs, other players, etc.

The only thing that still concerns me is that traces of the old attitude keep coming up. That whole thing about "people don't give me enough credit" came off as really immature, and my hope is that it doesn't eventually start creeping back onto the court.

Yeah the comment makes you wonder, but he did follow it up by saying he still must keep proving people wrong. Which puts a positive spin on a negative comment. Most guys who say that are referring to what they already do and just want props for their accomplishments. Brown is saying he has more to do to win that respect and plans on it. Nothing to worry about there. He gets he needs to keep performing well to get where he wants to be.

People don't give me enough credit = No one thought we could win this game.

I hear/read the latter quite a bit, and it's usually crap.

Yes, we hope that Hamilton doesn't regress too. And we hope Barnes can continue to improve as a coach. No one is perfect. No one on this team has finished developing.

I want to give J'covan big time props for what he has accomplished on the court so far this year. Right now I think he is by far the most improved player on the team.

That edge that he has can be used for good or bad. So far this year it has been overwhelmingly good. And I, for one, am willing to give him full credit for his efforts.

Sort of like a kid who brings home a report card with 5 A's and one B- after bringing home all C's the previous grading period.

I am happy as hell with the trend and will not bring it down by emphasizing the B-

About a month a go someone asked if he'd be a 1st round pick and I thought it was a moronic question.

Yeah, no one on this board, or this earth is perfect. But this thread is about the UT basketball, and J Brown in particular.

Is there any doubt that he is the most improved player on the team? No.

Is there any doubt that Rick Barnes is in large part responsible for Brown's turnaround? No.

Is there any doubt that the primary one responsible for J Brown's improvement is J Brown, and the hard work and mental discipline he is showing on the court. No.

So who cares about the perfection or lack thereof of the posters on this board as Gem state mentioned above. Not me.

Something I have found that helps me keep things in perspective, is that when I begin to focus too much on another's imperfections, I simply look in the mirror. What I see is often times quite humbling.
