J'Covan Brown signs

It was posted, but this is still an important link, as this is the news being reported by a newspaper. I don't think even the people around J'Covan Brown are going to make the mistake of getting quoted like this and then giving the whole deal more of a runaround.

I'm glad it looks like this part of the saga is over, at least.

Oops, I didn't see it buried in that recruiting thread. At least we now have a Statesman blog "confirming" what J'Covan's dad said.

Hope the kid can get things straightened out . . .

The reason that is so important is the fact that it is his dad saying that he signed it. I don't think J'Covan himself signing has ever been an issue. Good link.

I wonder how much us not getting Jeff Taylor had to do with the scholarship numbers or the coaching staff thinking we are in good position with another player.

SLX,
I could've sworn the consensus was that we would take Taylor over Witherspoon, if we had to choose. I thought our recruiting had grown cold towards Witherspoon in much the same way we had grown cold to Anthony Jones and Sylven Landesberg at the end of last year.

Apparently Texas loved what they saw with the Jordan Classic.

Honestly, I can't keep up, 4realhorn. Between early departures, J'Covan Brown, possible targets in the '09 class, and head coaches leaving their jobs and the subsequent LOI fallout, this has been the craziest recruiting season I can recall. I wouldn't mind '09 being a little more boring, frankly.

I don't think it's a matter of getting back in with Witherspoon.

That's why coaches hate recruiting talk on the internet. The less said about what their possible intentions are, the more options available to them. Heck, maybe I had it all wrong. But they're in there right now, supposedly down to Memphis and Texas.

Goodness knows I've thrown my hands up. I have no idea what's going to happen.

I'm bummed, too, 4realhorn. I liked the increased level of athleticism he would help bring. Oh, well.

It seems like everyone, Ramathorn. And they're not picking the good guys.

Tyreke Evans was down to Memphis, Villanova, and Texas.

Devin Ebanks is down to West Virginia, Rutgers, Texas, and Memphis.

'09 guard Kenny Boynton is listing Duke, Memphis, and Texas as his favorites.

But the specific player they're referring to in this instance is Wesley Witherspoon.

Well, let me be the first to say (in case you are reading), welcome aboard J'Covan. WE are very excited about you coming the 40 acres and think you'll be a great addition to the team! Hook Em.

I was hoping that DB would be qualified when he signed the LOI before June and if that did not happen would he be a partial-qualifier? does someone have any details how that works? B in H was posting something about that a few days ago. I am assuming that he would have a ship as a partial-qualifier, summer school at UT ??

Devin :Huggy Bear made a solid impression on him, getting him ready for the League, Mom likes Rutgers , If Memphis gets Spoon or Devin, I sure hope the other heads to the 40 acres.

I happened to see "KB" Boyton in Orlando the 28-29th of last month at the Shootout. He was walking around with his Breakdown jersey over a blue T-shirt with a Texas white cap on. I gave him the GO Horns sign and asked if that meant he was coming to Texas. KB pulled up his Breakdown and he had a Duke t-shirt on. KB was laughing and saying it was too close to call and he would do something before Sept., this kid has an edge alittle like TJ and he makes players around him better, like the winner attitude around him.

Please forgive the error of my words. I will restate what I meant. I spoke the words"Go Horns" and threw the Hook'em Horns at him....
It just amazes me sometimes about what will get you started. Why not contribute something to the Horns BB board and get off my ***. Besides my beer is getting warm.

I'm dumber for having read that thread, although I do appreciate the link for entertainment purposes, if nothing else.

Your link is to the 2nd page of the (currently) 3 page thread, Aces_Full. It doesn't really matter, but I wasn't sure if you were aware of that or not.

So much misinformation in that thread, however, the kernel that's the most important is true. I don't know anyone personally who was at the game (the Kingwood event is staged in 60 gyms all across north Houston, and J'Covan's game wasn't being held at the main arena), but apparently J'Covan was having a monster game when he was undercut by another player in a play that resulted in an intentional foul. That wasn't enough for J'Covan and his older brother, who was the coach for J'Covan's team. I've seen the older brother coach before, and I can say he's a piece of work as it is.

Supposedly they both got out of control, and had to be escorted off the premises by the police working the event.

Look, think what you want about this stuff, but it's all just more of the same. Anyone expecting J'Covan to productively work on his issues in his current environment was living in La-la land anyway. He needs to get to Austin as soon as possible. The kid wants to change, but being around the people in his basketball life in Port Arthur isn't going to give him the tools necessary to do so. We'll see if Barnes/Wright and his future Longhorn teammates can help him channel his fiery disposition a little more productively.

I'm just glad that with the signed LOI in hand, this part of the saga is over at least.

I have total faith in Barnes and Wright that when JCovan gets to campus, they will immediately work to positively influence this guy. There is no way they would take a chance on this kid if they didn't KNOW they could change him. It's unfortunate but J'Covan is a product of his environment. He's around awful people who don't care about him, only how they can benefit personally from J'Covan. Everything I have heard from people close to the situation lead me to think that J'Covan will not be a problem at UT.
