J'Covan Brown- A Texas BB WARRIOR

I got to go to the practice in Tulsa on Thursday and wound up not only getting a t-shirt but a signed one at that. After the practice I met J'Covan and got the shirt signed. Then I told him two things. I said this may sound stupid but;

A. Make sure you and the team get your rest so you won't come out "dead legged".

B. Get Balbay to take a few jumpers to make sure the opposing team knows we have FIVE threats instead of four or less. That will take the pressure off and weaken the possible double teams.

He agreed and finished signing the shirt.

I came away getting a strong vibe that this guy has a HUGE HEART for this team and has a burning desire to win.

Got to the Oakland game Friday and watched us win.

Was I wrong? 12 for 12 against Oakland then 13 of 13 against 'Zona.

The guy was the main reason we were able to get the lead at the end when the Hamiltons, Thompsons and Johnsons were having limited shooting sucess. He IS the reason we made a game of it and has us all squabbling about "what could have been".

I felt the most pain when I saw him lying there near the basket and all I could think of is how hard he busted his butt to get us that lead ( only the second one all game long 12-11 early 1st half) only to see it dissappear.

The fact is he will be around next year and with his skill sets and leadership we will make a deep run-- a very, very deep run.

God Bless You J'Covan Brown.

I had my doubts early on, but lo and behold, he's one of my faves right now. He may have some flaws to work on, but the man has heart.

He's a really good player. I would like to see him work on dishing it out at times when he draws a double team as he drives to the bucket.

All year I have admired his guts, poise at the freethrow line, creativity with the ball, and I have seen him make some fantastic passes. He grew into the go to guy in the tourney.

We should have a very nice rotation next year with Brown, Joseph and Kabongo.

Can someone please tell me what the hell he did to Barnes' to never start a freaking game? Always off the bench? Always? Good shooter, tenacious defender, clutch at the charity stripe and tons of heart - am I missing something? I know our 5 starters may be overall better players than him but he came alive tournament time and towards the end of the season. Cory Joseph was strong at the beginning but I think Brown deserved the start over him towards the end...

Really,

Then I would say that Brown made a 180 degree turnaround in one year in attitude and maturity

Give some credit to Barnes for it.

Brown was a punk last season and he is lucky that Barnes kept him around. He appears to have gradually grown up some, but has a good way to go. As for his being a "tenacious" defender, he is, intermittently. Other times he sulks or loses focus. He is no where near the top defenders Texas has had during the Barnes years.

He needs to be more consistent but offensively he can be great, awesome at free throw shooting the last 2 games. If he improves his defense and attitude he can be awesome for Texas, they are going to need him big time if Hamilton and Thompson leave as i am hearing.
