JC Recruits

This might be better served on the recruiting board, but what does it say about a program that relies heavily on junior college recruits? I am quite proud of the fact that Texas generally accepts jc transfers only from those players originally offered out of high school by Texas. I have seen it work both ways: K-State never got over the hump (MNC) while OUsucks made tremendous strides employing the strategy. Aggy now appears to be going down that path. Thoughts?

Works for OU, not so much for aggy. Given Mack's general reluctance to give signficant playing time for anyone in their first year in the program, I don't think an increase in JC recruits would be beneficial.

Sometimes it smells of desperation when schools tap the JC pool of talent, but it did work for awhile at K-State. They seemed to find talented guys who could play. The downside seems to be that if they can't play immediately, the two years transfers spend on the bench could have been time you were developing a freshman into a salty junior.

A&M needs instant experience in their secondary, so I'd probably be happy in their case to have picked up a JC with good metrics.

We were hot for two linebackers from a California JC five or six years ago. They ended up at OU and one of them turned out to be stellar, as I recall.

I think JCs could also screw up a team's chemistry, since you don't have guys who are in the program 4-5 years. I'd say OU has done a great job of getting guys from JC and plugging them into their program (notably the QB of their NC winning team) without relying on them to build their foundation like K-State did.

I wonder if Sherman will go heavy with JC transfers in this class, get some momentum with those guys, and then have a couple of really big classes when they and the 4-5 year players graduate.
