Jan-August 2012 Hottest/Most Extreme on record US

Doomed.. watch out for 12/12/12

I'll defer to the professionals on this, but at least in Texas, 2011 seemed a lot worse than 2012.

Horn Emeritus, that is a graph revealing the adjustments of the raw data over time for the US. Notice how they keep adjusting it more and more? In light of this, I am not terribly impressed with claims of "hottest ever xyz"

haven't we discussed that at length? I held nothing back and was very forthcoming.

any thoughts about this thread paso? do you think those adjustments are reasonable scientifically speaking? should adjustments always go upward over time? If so, why?

I don't know what that chart even is. It does not look like any temperature chart that I have seen. Can you give me a link and some context? It does only go to 2000 instead of 2011 or 2012 which seems a bit odd to me.

mop, the Arctic Ocean didn't lose 50% of its summer ice coverage nor did the world's glaciers lose a substantial amount of their mass in the last 20 years because of faulty data.

So what's your point?

And as I have noted for nearly 10 years on this board, as the Arctic loses ice the warming will accelerate and the climate will change more rapidly.

Those that have argued that AGW didn't exist, didn't have any relation to man, and/or didn't have any concern have looked foolish since the beginning, and continue to do so.

You got a chart for that accelerated foolishness?

Paso, you can run your mouse over the picture to see exactly where it comes from. Why don't you do that and see if I am making something up?

Mop will always fine some graph or blog somewhere that offers some bit of info, whether true or misleading, to take as gospel and give him reason to completely ignore everything else. I will trust in the experts. Mr Deez you should too.

that was an official UHCN graph. Was it incorrect? Was it misleading? that shows the adjustments made by UHCN to the historical data. Isn't it strange that as the Urban Heat Island effect warms cities more and more that the UHCN finds a way to adjust upwards?

in short, hornpharmd, that is a crappy argument. you ought to try again.

While I can't refute mop's graph, IMO the most telling aspects of this graph....
first, it is 2012 measured against the other 5 warmest years since 1895, not the average temps... and 2012 is still THE HIGHEST.
second, of the top 6, 4 of them occurred in the last 14 years. so you have 117 years of data and 4 of the warmest data points occurred in the last 14 years.

Not incontrovertible proof, but certainly strong evidence that the planet is getting warmer.

who on these boards questions that the earth is getting warmer?

and if the earth is getting warmer, isn't it not just possible, but probable that the warmest years on record will be clustered at the end?
