Jambalaya question

Well with the gumbo debate raging and the thing about gumbo over potato salad, I have a question about Jambalaya.

There is a resturant in Orlando called Mimi's Cafe that is evidently part of a chain that serves "Jambalaya" over penne pasta. The Link scroll down to pasta and there it is.

In reply to:

If they are making it with rice and then pouring it over pasta, that would be wrong. If they are making it like a glorified pasta sauce, then the pasta would be a rice replacement.

everything about my cultures food is being butchered and destroyed to make some money... (not that there is anything necessary wrong about that)...

just it seems that whenever a chicken is blackened in the world it is called 'cajun' chicken...

mimi's cafe is a crappy chain and knows jack **** about food.

*this is a typical hornfans reply, but very true in this case. it's applebee's with a different decorator and menu font.

In the event that some cajun was too poor to buy rice and all he had was penne, then it would be ok.

So let that sink in and then ask the question again.

The word "jambalaya" comes from a combination of the French word for ham -- "jambon" -- and an African word for rice ("ya"). Originally it was called "jambon a la ya." So I would say that rice is one of the two necessary ingredients, along with a pork product.
