Jai Lucas piece in FWST

I really can't wait for the fall semester to end to see him play. He's a special guy. He might not have TJ's speed or DJ's drive ability, but he's going to lead us to great things this season.

The article also enforces why I like Barnes. He doesn't mess around.

It's good to get excited about this guy - reading some posts and evaluations on here I'd kind of prepared myself for thinking of him as being a stop-gap, but how great would it be for him to step in next year and really blossom. It sounds like that could definitely happen.

It's good to hear that we finally have a guard who really understands how to throw the ball down into the post, which has been a big problem in the past. There are aspects to the post entry pass which alot of players don't seem to understand. Maybe I am reading more into this than there actually is, but I think this brings up a questions as to why Jai's answer surprised the coach? Shouldn't the coaches be teaching the players things like this?

I had a chance to spend a little time with one of the asst. coaches and he said Lucas was going to be good, probably better than they had expected.

I have to admit when I read it, I thought the same thing about the coaching. Maybe this will be good for reasons other than just Jai's on the court skills. Maybe if he has such a good understanding about the entry pass, it will rub off on the coaches for the future.

I got the impression that Springmann was just surprised with Jai's development at this stage, not that he doesn't know to teach the PG to draw the help side defender away. I wouldn't read too much into that comment. Sounds to me like his expectations were raised that day.

sinless1, I think that is the case as well. Springmann was probably just trying to tell an amusing story to show how impressed he was with Jai, but such a comment does cause one to wonder.
