Jacksonville, FL

Have to be in Jacksonville area next week (Sun thru Fri). Staying in a hotel close to the Landing. Any suggestions along the lines of great restaurants, strip clubs, cool hole-in-the-wall bars, or other night life activities would be greatly appreciated.

Tips on local music as well. Searched Pollstar but nothing really of interest.

For restaurants, try Clark's Fish Camp out in Mandarin. The wings at the Hooter's in the Landing aren't bad, if you don't have transportation. Another option - go to The Landing, take the river shuttle across the St. John's, and eat at the River City Brewing Company - lots of beer choices, and great food. Probably the best restaurant in JAX.

Most of the strip clubs (what few there are) are located out on Beach Blvd, headed toward the coast. Mostly a waste of time - not much talent.

If you have time for golf, Ponte Vedra has some great courses, and that famous 17th "island" hole. More great golf down in St. Augustine.

Be careful downtown after dark - pretty high crime rate down there around the Omni (if that is where you are staying). There is usually some good entertainment either at the Civic Center (also downtown) or at the Florida Theatre.

Another interesting trip is to go out to Mayport, and see the Naval flotilla - if you like big ships. Lots of good fishing if the weather is decent, either in the Intercoastal Canal or offshore. The beaches aren't much - nowhere near as nice as Florida's West Coast and Panhandle.

Overall, not a great town for nightlife. Stay away from the Metro (Nightclub), unless you are into an alternate lifestyle (not that there is anything wrong with that...). Your hotel people should be able to steer you toward whatever hotspots there are.
