Jack Daniel's Question

A friend of mine has a b-day coming up, and I'm going to buy him a bottle of Jack...jack/coke being his drink of choice. Thought about spending an extra $5-$10 to get him a bottle of gentlemen jack or jack daniel's single barrel.

Have any of you tried gentlemen jack or jack daniel's single barrel? Are they worth the extra $, or should I just get him a bigger bottle of regular jack? He never drinks Jack straight or with anything aside from coke.

Gentleman Jack (my favorite) is much smoother and more mellow than regular Jack. It is better served either on the rocks or with a splash of Coke. Single Barrel is just Jack but from a single barrel, and is a little stronger (94 proof, compared to 80 proof).

Mainly, if he's gonna mix it with Coke, stick with the regular stuff. If he is gonna drink it straight, go with GJ. If he wants something with a little more bite, go with SB.

I would agree with the above. If he is a Jack and Coke guy, then regular Jack is the way to go. Now, if you want to spend a bit more, just get him the 1.5 L bottle.

Do him a real favor, and get him Weller, instead.

Do your friend a huge favor and take the money you would have spent on the Jack and get him 2 bottles of Dickel instead.

do your friend a real favor and teach him not to taint his Jack with coke. i'm a Jack drinker and single barrel isn't just Jack. both Old No 7 and GJ are intermingled. you get a more consistent flavor throughout. i'm fairly new to Single Barrel, but it blows No 7 away.

that said, if he's going to mix it, go with No 7. not sure how old he is, but honestly, the guy who told me to stop mixing (about 10 yrs ago) was spot on.

Buy him this. Mix it with Diet coke. Add a lime. Then go kick some dogs..

No, in all seriousness, get him a bigger bottle. I prefer Crown if I'm having whiskey nice. But, when mixed, I can barely taste the difference between Crown and Sam's Choice brown alcohol.

Gentleman Jack is well worth the extra dough.

I agree, however, with the objection to mixing it with Coke.

Black label.

I personally would prefer a lot of different whiskeys rather than jack, but it's not my b-day. In this instance I tend to agree with the posters that say just get him a bigger bottle of jack since he is going to mix it with coke anyways.

4o Creek is a damned good Canadian whiskey. Get him Seagram's 7 and Crown Royal and teach him how to make a damned Texas drink made famous by the late Dimebag Darrell Abbott.

LA, I know you are just getting this for a buddy, and your buddy likes his jack mixed with coke, so the cheapest or the easiest to reach on the shelf is the one to go with.

But to help your buddy, I would tease him a bit. Jack and coke, Crown and Coke, Rum and Coke, etc are all enjoyable, but any man worth his salt should feel the need to look over his shoulder before he ever orders a drink like that.

So buy him some Old #7 and some tampons and tell him Happy Birthday. Good luck.
