J Burt

thanks for starting this thread... thought often of Johnny B. Not Good during the Tech game. I too suspect he was benched and told to focus on: CATCHING THE DAMN BALL!

I'm not going to bag on Burt. Probably a good track kid, but there are better options until he can prove in practice he's reliable catching the ball. Even the long TD he had against ND, he almost dropped it.

I feel sorry for John. Seems like a good kid and works hard. Dropping passes like that is mental. I really hope he can get it together even if it means seeing a sports psychologist.

The kids got speed, length, and hops. A little more time with the Jugg machine and he can be a real threat
or, alternately, teach him how to tackle and put him in the backfield. At least there the only way a drop hurts is that it was not an interception for him...

I really am pulling for him - he's got a world of talent, but I think it's in his head right now and he just has to work out of it. Right now we're pretty fortunate that depth at receiver is not an issue whatsoever, especially as Collin has emerged. That's a pretty productive group right now.

Get him some of that stick 'um like Lester Hayes...or Clifford Franklin...

There was another picture with the quote in there but I don't want to be banned from HF...:whiteflag:

It would be really a solid core of receivers to have and for defenses having to be ready for many combo's of Burt, Duvernay, Johnson, Foreman, Oliver, Heard, Warrick, ....

good problem to have....overall team depth looks pretty good....CS or whoever is HC in 2017 will have a very good nucleus to work with.........wonder what results we have if CS stays??

We're like 9 deep at WR, so if you keep dropping balls, we're going to find somebody else who can make the catch.

It's a nice problem to have. Not so good for Burt now, but the competition will make everyone better, including him.

Also, let's not forget he is a true sophomore. Slumps happen.

International level track guys have a spotty history as wide receivers at Texas. Herky Walls, Marquis Goodwin and now Burt (and Devornay) all had/have issues holding onto the ball. Lam Jones seems to have been the best of this class of dual sport athlete.

Viper,When I was a kid, we would sometimes get to go to Dallas to see the Cowboys. If we didn't get tickets from Meredith, we could sit in general admission in sections 19 and 20 for a couple of dollars. Those are the sections that "Cowboy Ray" got his start in selling beer. After the Cowboys signed Bob Hayes, who fortunately learned to catch the ball. Hayes was the world record holder at 9.1. The previous record holder was Henry Carr at 9.3. The Giants signed him to offset Hayes. Problem was that Bob Hayes was 9.2 or 9.3 in pads. Henry Carr refused contact, couldn't catch, was moved to DB and watched Hayes light up the Giants on multiple bombs. A beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon in FairPark with the sky raining touchdowns.
