I've Seen Enough of Sam and Shane...

Why not try Thompson. Could he be any worse? Sam and Shane are done in my book. My God, I'd kill for Case McCoy at this point!

I wanted to see Shane in there so badly. I had enough of Sam the linebacker and his poor play last year, knew he want going to progress much if at all. Today was sickening.

Let Shane have three or four starts, like Sam did today. Give him a shot. If he doesn't work out then groom rising and Thompson. But Sam is not a qb we can count on, week after week.

If Herman starts Sam against Tulsa, you are going to hear some major booing from the Texas fans. I feel for the kid, but he is about to be Garrett Gilbert 2.0

Herman better understand his choices could destroy Sam.

Start Shane and give him the shot he deserves. If he is as ineffective as Sam is, then switch to Cam and then Thompson. Texas lost this game because Sam doesn't know how to play the position. His mistakes has cost Texas against USC, Oklahoma, OSU, Tech and now Maryland. He needs to sit and both regain his confidence and learn how to play the position.

Oh, and Beck needs to sharpen his resume. Not for his terrible play calling but for his terrible development of Sam and Shane.

With the way they were able to pass block combined with the way the defense played against Sam today Shane would have looked like he did in the game against ND
( feels like ages ago) Idk if they told Sam to stand in the pocket more and let the play develop or if he just wants to prove he can do it but that is not his game yet. We should kill Tulsa keyword should no matter who the qb is but I’d like to see Shane and then let Rising finish them off once we take the lead maybe the only time we can let him play some real minutes this season

Here's what concerns me about Sam:

After the game, he did an interview with LHN, and talked about the last INT. And basically he said this: "I think people who have never played the game sometimes don't understand those situations. You have to take risks, that's the only way you're going to win."

He throws a duck into triple coverage on third down with more than a minute left in the game, on the opponent's side of the field, and he's justifying it by saying "You have to take risks." Yes - on fourth down when no one's open and it's the last play of the game." Every other instance, you dump it off, you run, or you throw it out of bounds, and try again.

I'm wondering more and more if these aren't signs of immaturity as much as signs that he's decided in his head how to play those last minutes, and he's not planning to change it. So basically, unless something's wide open and we have the perfect play called in those situations, he's going to chuck it into traffic and hope for the best.

Sam says this, but on the two point conversion before half with nothing to lose (so what if they intercept it?), he throws it out the back of the endzone.

I am not convinced we can score enough points to keep up with Tulsa/Phillip Montgomery with either of our #1 or #2 QBs.
By the way, their QB coach is Beau Trahan

Anyone who couldn’t carry Sams jock... who boos, should be ashamed of themselves.
Good grief!

ah Beau Trahan----"on the tackle (special teams), number 18, Beau Trahan!"

Beau Trahan, son of Aggie Warren Trahan, forever etched in Texas HS Football lore for letting Bob McQueen's Wildcats score.

Warren is a great guy, and I sincerely appreciate him letting his #1 son be a Longhorn, not to mention never running up his bar tab.

Sam’s poor decisions and lack of ball security last and this season have cost us:

USC - fumble in OT
OSU - pic in OT
TECH - pic
MARYLAND - 3 pics last to end the game

I no longer have confidence in Sam. But I don’t think Shane can get it done either. However, the overall play calling was poor and we didn’t use our weapons effectively.
The defense looked like a collection of freshmen at times and pros at others. All I can say is the coaches and player need to turn this farce of a performance around and quick.

No matter who plays QB, bad play calling and lack of development will always fail. Same as the constant switching of running backs does not allow any rythym.

If this team had Vince and Ricky, keeping Vince in a pro style passing attack and spreading Ricky out in the flat regularly as a receiver would also have bad results. Of course Vince and Ricky would still win, but only because they are Vince and Ricky. We don’t have anything close to Vince and Ricky.

Nailed it!!

I know you are being funny, but...really....Did you see the Alamo Bowl vs Oregon??

You make a few valid points, but I believe the poor start from the defense along with questionable coaching really put the pressure on the team...and most of what anyone seems to want to talk about is Sam.
I agree with much of the points people are making in criticism of him, and he may not end up being the answer, but if he is greeted by boos Saturday, it will continue to solidify an increasingly poor rep and look for football fans and UT''s in particular - and it will be deserved.

Case McCoy had 3 terrible games: Okie State, Baylor and Oregon. He was never a good QB. That said, 2-5 Sam Ehlinger has blown 5 games in a way Case never did. With 2011 A&M, 2013 OU and 2013 West Virginia among other wins, Case McCoy currently > Sam Ehlinger.

In the 2013 WVU game, we were down in every quarter and Case brought us back every time including two 4th quarter scoring drives and an OT TD pass. Sam Ehlinger has pretty much done the opposite.

Don't think the fans will boo Sam when he starts. If he plays poorly then it may happen. If Sam doesn't perform well then Shane should get in there at some point.

Yeah...I know. I do get your points. I just can't shake that Alamo game for reasons related to the program as a whole...not necessarily to bash Case.
