I've never felt dirtier

After a win. I'm happy, but that didn't feel very good, to beat such a sentimental favorite with a retiring coach on a walk off walk.

Still, a win's a win and a victory over ASU puts us in insanely good position. Hook 'em

Dirty win for sure but we allowed them to be in this game. Catcher dropping a ball, pitcher throwing one to the backstop, yuck. Not typical Texas play. They had a lot given to them. So I will take it!

Nerves must have been a problem for both teams in last two innings. After playing our sort of great small ball and pitching and defense in first 7 innings we just struggled in the 8th and 9th.

I think we will be fine against ASU we just need to bring our game. Besides, Chance Ruffin will be pitching and we seem to rally around him.

Sometimes it is better to be lucky.....

By the way, ASU needed extras and we're throwing our ace as well.

After being forced to watch their manager...his wife...their players...and their fans constantly for the last 3 innings I had completely lost any sentimental feelings for them.

I'll take it. If there wasn't offense earlier in the game, Keyes and Moldenhaur come to mind, then those walks might have been for nothing.

Running from 2nd to 3rd on a 1 out fly to left wasn't very impressive either, but BOOMhauer was awesome.

Look at it this way. If USM had won the game on walks, hit batters, errors and baserunning booboos (which was nearly what happened), would they have said they didn't "deserve" it? HECK NO!!! Let's enjoy this win just like they would have, and work on figuring out how to BTHO ASU.

This Texas team reminds me of the mid 2000 Stanford teams. I've watched Texas and Washington be up on the Cardinal, only to have Stanford systematically destroy opponents.

They are as good as they need to be to destroy an opponent.

How that will translate against ASU/LSU, I have no idea.

I've seen a bunch of Texas teams --- football, basketball, and baseball --- which were certainly the better team, lose to a lesser team on a given day just because that's how the breaks went.

Sorry for the cliche, but that's why they play the game.

On this day, Texas was the better team, almost gave the game away with sloppy play, but still came out the winner.

It's a win. And the better team won. No guilt here.

No guilt at all from me either, but plenty of anxiety regarding our upcoming games against better teams than Southern Miss. We will need to play much better to continue winning.

I don't always understand the magnanimous, benevolent attitude that Texas fans seem to have toward underdogs. In theory, I get it. As much success as our program has had in baseball, we should be above thinking we need to humiliate everyone we play.

But do any of you think for one second that if we had lost that game, people would be making excuses for us? Saying we just gave it away and that Southern Miss was lucky we couldn't find the strike zone? No way. They'd be saying what a gutsy performance the Golden Eagles turned in, what a marvelous coaching job Corky Palmer did against Augie Garrido, what a great story it is that they beat the #1 overall seed. And probably suggesting we didn't deserve to be there, if they aren't already.

This was a big moment for our players, too. None of our guys had ever set foot on the field at Rosenblatt, and they wanted this just as badly. It means just as much to them as it means to any other team in the field. All you can do is win your games. So no, I don't feel sorry for anyone.

A friend of mine who didn't play or know baseball asked another friend why baseball is slow and boring. My old teammate answered better than I ever could: "Unfortunately, it's a game of skill".

Part of the "skill" is being able to throw a strike under extreme pressure. Southern Mississippi couldn't do that last night.

There's nothing to feel sorry about for them, unless you didn't care who won. They would have been pumping their fists at the Texas dugout if they had won in any fashion. Hey, it's a tough game.
